George Wilbur Flynt
Mr. George Wilbur Flynt, 80, of Advance, died Saturday, May 16, 2009.
He was born April 18, 1929 to Robert Wade Flynt Sr. and Beulah Hill Flynt. Mr. Flynt was a veteran of the Korean War serving in the U.S. Army and the U.S. Air Force. Mr. Flynt retired from Dillards Department Store.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Woodcock Flynt.
Surviving: 2 daughters, April Flynt O’Mara and husband Mark O’Mara of Advance and Jane Flynt Hensdale and husband Mark Hensdale of Advance; a stepson, Frank Wright of Mississippi; 5 grandchildren, Bradley Wright, Zachary Wright, Tyler O’Mara, Cody O’Mara and Danny Flynt; 2 sisters, Louise Cooper of Winston-Salem and Beulah Mae Burcham of Yadkinville; 7 brothers, Conrad Flynt, Woodrow Flynt, Samuel E. Flynt, Howard Flynt, all of Winston-Salem, Robert W. Flynt Jr. of North Wilkesboro, Roy Flynt of Yadkinville and Joe Flynt of Clemmons.
A funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 19 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with the Rev. Karl Kelly officiating. Burial followed in Parklawn Memorial Park. The family received friends Monday at the funeral home.

Bertha Spaugh Allen
Mrs. Bertha Viola Spaugh Allen, 64, of Spillman Road, Mocksville, died Sunday, May 17, 2009, at Forsyth Medical Center.
She was born June 19, 1944, in Forsyth County to the late Harvey L. and Jessie Earn Whisenhunt Spaugh.
She was also preceded in death by an infant brother.
Survivors: her husband, Billy Wain Allen of the home; a daughter, Penny (Gary) Boner of Advance; a son, Tim Allen of the home; 2 grandchildren, Clint and Jessica Boner; 2 sisters, Margie Collier and Frances Varner, both of Mocksville; 3 brothers, Robert Spaugh of Yadkinville, Ralph (Helen) Spaugh of Booneville and Marvin (Jo) Spaugh of Mocksville; brother and sisters-in-law, John (Doris) Allen of Welcome, Grady (Pat) Allen and Ronnie (Kathy) Allen, all of Mocksville; special cousin, Frances Ellis of Yadkinville; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service was to be conducted at 2 p.m., Thursday, May 21, at Eaton Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Allen Barker officiating. Burial was to follow in Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family was to receive friends from 6:30-8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 20, at Eaton Funeral Home.

Edwin Harold Reeves
Mr. Edwin Harold Reeves, 81, of Main Church Road, Mocksville, died Saturday, May 16, 2009, at Davis Regional Medical Center in Statesville after a lengthy illness.
He was born Jan. 8, 1928, in Iredell County to the late Willie and Cecil Keller Reeves. Mr. Reeves owned and operated 601 Shell of Mocksville for 21 years and then worked at W.G. Whites Ham House for 18 years. He was a gardener known for his watermelons that he shared with neighbors.
He was also preceded in death by 5 brothers, Howard, Hubert, Hoarce, Homer Ray and Hoyle.
Survivors: his wife, Helen Reynolds Reeves of the home; 2 daughters, Juanita R. Keaton (Jim) of Harmony and Wanda R. Hunter (Alex) of King; a chosen son, Ray Whisenhunt of Mocksville; 2 grandchildren, Jenay Wilson and Jeremy Keaton; 2 great-grandchildren, Logan Wilson and Slade Keaton; 3 sisters, Lucille R. Vernon of Greensboro, Anna Mae Wright of Hiddenite and Helen R. Sampson of Harmony; and 2 brothers, Harvey Reeves of Statesville and John Henry Reeves of Mocksville.
A funeral service was conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, May 18, at Eaton Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Wade Wright and Dorman Brown officiating. Burial followed in Union Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family received friends Monday at the funeral home.

James Wesley Wooten
Mr. James Wesley Wooten, 78, of US 64 West, Mocksville, died Thursday, May 14, 2009, at WFU Baptist Medical Center.
He was born in Yadkin County on Jan. 3, 1931, to the late Wesley Raymond and Mary Jane McCormick Wooten. Mr. Wooten was a member of First Baptist Church, Mocksville and was retired from Norfolk Southern Railroad. He was a veteran of the US Air Force serving during the Korean Conflict. He was an outdoorsman who enjoyed farming, gardening and traveling to the mountains.
He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Susan Dolores Wooten; 2 sisters, Ruth Maynard and Pauline Wooten and 4 brothers, George, John, Howard, and Paul Wooten.
Survivors: his wife, Jessie Ruth Steelman Wooten of the home; 4 sons, Eric Wesley Wooten, Bruce Steelman Wooten, both of the home, Gregg Scott Wooten (Martha) of Mocksville, and David Neil Wooten, also of the home; a granddaughter, Genny Wooten; 2 brothers, Richard Wooten (Jean) of Salisbury and Bill Wooten (Lucille) of Mocksville; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service was held at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 16, at Eaton Funeral Chapel. Burial was in Rose Cemetery. The family received friends May 15 at the funeral home.

Katherine E. Crotts
Mrs. Katherine Elizabeth Tutterow Crotts, 81, of NC 801 S., Mocksville, died Friday, May 15, 2009, at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem.
She was born Sept. 22, 1927, in Rowan County to the late Duke Barry and Esther Viola White Tutterow. Mrs. Crotts was a member of Concord United Methodist Church where she was a Sunday school teacher for many years in the willing workers class and in the nursery. She retired as a teachers assistant with Cooleemee Elementary School.
She was also preceded in death by 2 brothers, Joe Nelson Tutterow and Donnie Tutterow.
Survivors: her husband of 61 years, Henry Turner Crotts of the home; 2 daughters, Vickie Potts and Tina Felts (Keith); 3 sons, David Crotts (Diane), Richard Crotts (Debbie) and Dan Crotts (Angela), all of Mocksville; 15 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; a sister, Sandra Vance (Theon) of Mocksville; a brother, Jack Tutterow (Josephine) of Advance; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service was conducted at 11:30 a.m. Monday, May 18, at Concord United Methodist Church, with the Revs. Arnold Gosnell and Kenneth Eller officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery. The family received friends Monday, at the church.

Johnnie Lamar Tyson
Mr. Johnnie Lamar Tyson, 76, of North Charleston, S.C., died at his home, Sunday evening, May 17, 2009.
He was born April 21, 1933 in Chickamauga, Ga., one of eight children of John Forest Tyson and Hilda Viola Hartman Tyson. He was a veteran of the Korean War and served in the US Marine Corps and the US Navy. He was a member of the American Legion. Mr. Tyson was a truck driver with Allied Trucking Systems and later C-Truck.
Surviving: his children, son Jimmy L. Tyson and wife Leeann of Savannah, Ga.; son, Johnnie Tyson of Charleston; daughter Carmalita Elaine Dalton and husband Sherman of Advance; daughter Kristi Joy Harness of Dalton Ga. and son, Jeffrey Lloyd Tyson of Walnut Cove; 12 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; a brother, William Tyson of Summerville, Ga.; and a sister, Virginia Elkins of Alabama.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, May 22 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with the Rev. Lee Pollock officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Gardens of Memory, Walker-town. The family will receive friends on hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Bobby Mayhew
Mr. Bobby Mayhew, 73, of Leland, died Friday, May 15, 2009 at New Hanover Hospital in Wilmington.
He was born June 22, 1935 in Davie County to Leon and Margaret Mayhew. He loved his job and worked as long as his health permitted.
He was also preceded in death by an infant daughter, Rosa Lee; and a brother, Roger Mayhew.
Survivors: his wife, Ann Mayhew; a daughter, Phyliss Gonzonlas of Leland; 2 sons, James and Loretta, and Bobby Mayhew, all of Leland; 6 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; 3 brothers, Wayne and Marie Mayhew of Statesville, Leonard and Barbara Mayhew of Leesburg, Ga., and David and Gloria Mayhew of Harmony; 3 sisters, Betty and Bud Bledsoe and Margie and Tom Gobble, all of Mocksville, and Shirley and Max Long of Advance.
Betty Bailey Glass
Mrs. Betty Bailey Glass, 71, of Merrells Lake Road, Mocksville, died Wednesday, May 13, 2009, at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem.
She was born Sept. 1, 1937, in Davie County to the late Eliza Bailey Cope. Mrs. Glass was an antique dealer and was a member of Jerusalem Baptist Church.
She was also preceded in death by her first husband, Alton David Kit Beauchamp in 1961, and her second husband, Eugene Ronald Glass in 1999.
Survivors: a daughter, Theresa B. Whitaker of Advance; 3 sons, Alton Eugene Beauchamp of Lexington, Joe Bailey Beauchamp of Mississippi and Christopher Lee Glass of Mocksville; 8 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Bill Bailey.

Annie Ruth McPherson
Mrs. Annie Ruth Call McPherson, 90, of Gwyn Street, Mocksville, died Thursday, May 14, 2009, at Davie County Hospital.
She was born in Davie County on Nov. 27, 1918, to the late Samuel Milton and Ruth Rollins Call. Mrs. McPherson was a member of First United Methodist Church in Mocksville and was a retired Registered Nurse practicing in Mobile, Ala. One of her favorite charities was her donations of teddy bears and other stuffed animals to the Mocksville Police Department to give to the children they came in contact with.
Survivors: her daughter, Julie Secovnie of Willis, Va.; 2 sisters, Marjorie Cardenas of San Antonio, Texas and Elaine Smith of Wilmington; 7 nieces and nephews; a devoted cousin, Jane Tutterow of Mocksville; lifelong family friends, Tilthia Raye Hanes, Katherine Hursey, Helen Crenshaw, Wink Hendricks, Karen Cope and Doris Miller, all of Mocksville; Joyce Scott, Roy and Phyllis Swanson, Thea Brown, Dr. Joel and Linda Edwards, Pastor Don and Blaire Routh.

Annie Lois Baker
Annie Lois Baker, 75, of Davie Place Residential Care in Mocksville, died on Sunday afternoon, May 17, 2005.
She was born on Nov. 12, 1933 in Davie County to Dorsie Lee Baker. She was a member of Shiloh Baptist and Blaise Baptist churches. She loved food, especially fried chicken and pound cake. She loved to laugh and joke.
Survivors: 2 devoted aunts, Inez Baker Mayfield and Sallie Lyons Baker, both of Mocksville; and extended family and friends.
Her funeral service was Wednesday, May 20 at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Graham Funeral Home in Mocksville. Minister Ruby Clark officiated and the Rev. Timothy Wolf was eulogist. Burial followed in Shiloh Baptist Church cemetery.

Margaret A. Boger
Margaret Anderson Boger, 84, of Whitney Road, Mocksville, died on Thursday, May 14, 2009, at Gordon Hospice House in Statesville.
Born in Davie County on May 17, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Jessie Walker Anderson. She was retired from Burlington Industries in Cooleemee and attended North Main Church of Christ.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Robert Lee Boger, in 1961; and by an infant son, Rudy Boger, 2 brothers, Hayden and Wayne Anderson, and a sister, Wilma Danner.
Survivors: a son, Jerry Boger of Statesville; a daughter, Delane Baker of Marianna, Fla.; 2 brothers, Jim Anderson of Lakeland, Fla. and Bruce Anderson of Mocksville; a sister, Joyce Goodman of Winston-Salem; 9 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
The service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Boger was held on Sunday, May 17, at 2 p.m. in the Davie Funeral Service Chapel with Dr. Thomas Torpy officiating. Burial was in Joppa Cemetery. The family received friends Saturday, May 16, at Davie Funeral Service.
