- Willard T. Hayes Sr.
Mr. Willard T. “Pop” Hayes Sr., 86, of Liberty Road, Mocksville, died Monday, May 11, 2009, at his home.
He was born Nov. 25, 1922, in Wilkes County to the late Reallie and Marie Loer Hayes. Mr. Hayes was a veteran of the U.S. Navy having served during World War II. He was a member of Liberty United Methodist Church and retired as owner of Mocksville Automotive.
Survivors: his wife, Wilma Woodie Hayes of the home; 3 children, Ted (Runella) Hayes, Debbie (Jim) Robins and Larry Hayes, all of Mocksville; 4 brothers; 2 sisters; and 3 granddaughters, Jennifer (Wayne) Mabe, Bethany Laird and Dana Lee Hayes.
A funeral service was conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 13, at Liberty United Methodist Church, with the Revs. Karen Roberts and Jimmy Lancaster officiating. The body was placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial followed in the church cemetery, with military honors conducted by the Veterans of Foreign War Memorial Honor Guard. The family received friends Tuesday, May 12, at Eaton Funeral Home.

Jack Allen Plott
Jack Allen Plott, 38, of Statesville, died on Tuesday, May 5, 2009, from injuries in a motor vehicle accident.
He was born in Davie County on Oct. 14, 1970, to Artist Lee Pedro Plott of Mocksville and Libbie Parker Plott of Statesville. He was a self-employed builder and was of the Baptist faith.
Also surviving: his second mom, Sherry Plott; 2 sons, Artist Wilson “Will” Plott and Beau Allen Plott of Mocksville; a daughter, Danielle Renea Gibson of Richland; 2 brothers, Matt Allan (Tracy) Seats of Mocksville and Thomas Edward (Debbie) Plott of Statesville; the mother of his children, Kandice Allen Plott and a special friend, Lee Anne Owens.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Francis Patrick Seats.
The service to celebrate his life was held on Saturday, May 9, at 11 a.m., in the Davie Funeral Service Chapel with the Rev. Larry Holleman officiating. Burial was in the Oak Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family received friends May 8 at Davie Funeral Service in Mocksville.

Betty Gray Riddle
Mrs. Betty Gray Riddle, 64, of Harmony, died Thursday, May 7, 2009.
She was born Dec. 10, 1944 in Iredell County to Hubert and Esther Campbell Reavis. Mrs. Riddle was a retired nurse and loved helping people in the community.
Mrs. Riddle was preceded in death by her mother, and by an infant daughter.
Surviving: her children, Jeffrey Ice of Florida; Lisa Riddle, Taylorsville; Mark (Priscilla) Riddle, Harmony; Pamela (Donnie) Riddle, Winston-Salem; her father, Hubert Reavis of Harmony; 15 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Donna Wallace, Statesville.
The family received friends Monday, May 11, at Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville. Her funeral service was at 4 p.m. Monday in the Gentry Family Chapel by the Rev. Ken Seckler. Burial followed in the Westlawn Gardens of Memory in Clemmons.

Dennis Clark Rogers
Mr. Dennis Clark Rogers, 36, of Huntersville, died on May 4, 2009, at Oasis of Hope Hospital in Playas de Tijuana, Mexico after a battle with cancer. His wife, Lisa was by his side, as were his parents, Robert and Creola.
He was born July 22, 1972, in Florence County, S.C. to Robert D. and Creola Gobble Rogers. Mr. Rogers was a member of The Cove Church, Mooresville where he was involved with the youth and music ministries. He grew up in Mocksville with his brothers. He later moved to the Charlotte area where he began his life’s calling of impacting students with the love of God. After serving as a volunteer worship and youth leader, he was hired by The Cove Church as youth director. He later moved to Virginia Beach, Va. to help start a church as the worship leader. While in Virginia, he was ordained in 2005, and where he met the woman of his dreams. Clark and Lisa were married on May 26, 2006. The couple returned to North Carolina where he became the worship leader at Connection Church in Davidson. Before his illness, he had returned to The Cove’s student ministry staff. On a website biography, he once said his goals were: “To love God more, to love my wife more, and to love people more.” His life was celebrated with a benefit worship concert that drew hundreds of friends earlier this month.
Also surviving: his wife, Lisa Hagen Rogers of the home; 3 brothers, Shane, Philip, and Andrew (Diana); grandparents, Carl and Mary Kathryn Rogers; Uncle Randy; a niece, Torri Rogers; 3 nephews, Zach, Aidan, and Alex Rogers; many aunts and uncles; numerous cousins; and many friends in Davie County.
A funeral service was conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 9, at The Cove Church, with the Revs. Mike Madding, George Franco and Jerel Law officiating. The body was placed in the church one hour before the service. Burial followed in Ijames Crossroads Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mae Deen Hairston
Mae Deen Hairston died on Thursday, May 7, 2009.
She was born Nov, 20, 1946, in Ozark, Ala., daughter of Lessie Mae Gissendaner Hairston, and the late Harvey Lee Hairston. Early in life she moved with her family to North Carolina, where she attended Davidson County Schools. At an early age, she joined Buncombe Baptist Church, where she served faithfully in several capacities.
Survivors: her mother of Lexington; husband, Willie Hairston of Lexington; a son, Terry Smith of Lexington; 2 daughters, Paula Smith (Keith) Wilkie and Tabatha Smith of Lexington; step-children, Anthony and Kim; a brother, James Lee Hairston of Lexington; 2 grandchildren, Keith Felicia Wilkie and Kendall Jamaal Johnson; 2 nephews, Terran Jamarl Leonard, and Heath Bernard Leonard; special friends, the Dameron, Adams, Dodd, Smith, and Linder families; a host of other relatives and friends.
Her funeral service was held Wednesday, May 13 at 3 p.m. at Buncombe Baptist Church. Dr. Claude Forehand officiated and burial followed in the church cemetery.

Betty Barnes Plott
Mrs. Betty Barnes Plott, 81, of Advance, died on Sunday, May 10, 2009 at Forsyth Medical Center.
She was born Oct. 27, 1927 in Davie County to James David and Mattie Minor Barnes.
Preceding her in death are 5 brothers, Calvin, Homer, Green, Jay and Howard Barnes and 4 sisters, Annie McCarter, Alma Hardiman and Sallie (infant) and Mary Louise (infant).
Survivors: her husband of 63 years, J. H. Plott Jr; 2 daughters, Gail Walker, and Nancy Harpe and husband Arnie; a son, David Plott; 5 grandchildren, Jonathan Walker and wife Kathy, Janet McIntyre and husband Ricky, Joe Harpe and wife Jessica, Emily Cornatzer and husband Scott and Read Plott; 5 great-grandchildren, Gabriel, Levi, Jack and Teo Walker and Wyatt Harpe; 2 brothers, Thomas Barnes and wife Edna and Coy Barnes and wife Nan; care-givers, Doris Sloan, Carolyn Bright, Brenda Patterson, Penny Robbins and Carol Lewis; and a special friend, Evelyn Hunter who delivered tapes of weekly church services at Macedonia Moravian.
A celebration of life service was to be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 13 at Macedonia Moravian Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Jeff Carter officiating. Burial was to follow in the church graveyard. The family was to receive friends following the service and at other times at the home of Mr. Plott.
