- Wayne Edgar Trexler Sr.
Wayne Edgar Trexler Sr., 65, died May 2, 2009 at Rowan Regional Memorial Hospital after a short, but hard battle with cancer.
Born Nov. 21, 1943 in Davie County, he was the son of the late Glenn Trexler and Florence Mae Barns Trexler. Educated in Davie County Schools, he was the owner and operator of Trexler Construction. Mr. Trexler drove the wrecker for his friends Robbie and Mark at Franklin Service. Mr. Trexler was of the Baptist Faith. He never met a stranger; he loved his family, and enjoyed helping people. He was a golfer, a bowler, and shot for APA pool league.
Survivors: his wife, Joyce Frady Trexler, whom he married April 15, 1961; a son Wayne E. “Bubba” Trexler Jr. (Sherry) of Woodleaf; daughter, Lisa T. Waddell (Phillip) of Lexington; 2 brothers David “Boone” Trexler and Gene Trexler of Cooleemee; 2 grandchildren, Brandi McKinney of Lexington and Curtis Trexler of Woodleaf; 2 great-grandchildren, Bryton Wayne Chislom and Nevaeh Jade Hayes.
Visitation was Tuesday, May 5 at Lyerly Funeral Home. A graveside service was held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 6 at Oakwood Cemetery in Concord.

Tammy Cable Hellard
Tammy Lynette Cable Hellard, 35, of Benson, Ariz., formerly of Mocksville, died Tuesday, April 28, 2009 at her home.
Born in Davie County on Aug. 13, 1973, she was the daughter of Samuel Turner and Peggy Jean Mauldin Cable. She was an LPN in the Hospice Unit at the VA Hospital in Tucson and was a member of Jerusalem Baptist Church.
Also surviving: a daughter, Reagan Nicole Hellard; a brother, Gene (Carol) Cable of Salisbury; 2 sisters, Dale (Tony) Allen and Debbie (Auther) Rabon of Mocksville; and several nieces and nephews.
The service to celebrate her life was held Sunday, May 3, at 3 p.m. in the Davie Funeral Service Chapel with the Rev. Jimmy Lancaster officiating. The family receive friends on Sunday. Burial was private.

William Henry Turner
Mr. William Henry Turner, 78, died on April 29, 2009 in Davis Hospital following an extended illness.
He was born in Iredell County on April 5, 1931, son of the late Stokes and Martha Nicholson Turner. He graduated valedictorian of the class of 1950 at Unity High School in Statesville. Shortly thereafter, he entered the US Air Force and began a career which lasted 20 years. He was honorably discharged in 1971. He continued working for the federal government as an investigator, and as a Secret Service agent. He met and made many friends as he traveled within the states and other countries. He returned from California to his childhood community in 1992 where he and his son Cory made their home.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Carla Turner; all six of his siblings, Marjorie, Mabel, John Archie, Mitchell, Joe and Stokes.
Survivors: 2 sons, Byron (Allison) Turner of Walnut Creek, Calif., and Cory Turner and friend Amanda of Statesville; a daughter, Jasmin Turner of Atlanta, Ga.; a sister-in-law, Eva Turner; 6 grandchildren, Deseree, Angel, C.J., Timothy and Robert Turner, and Zoser Hazel; a large number of nieces and nephews including a special nephew, Charles Turner; other relatives and friends.
His funeral service was held Monday, May 4 at 12:30 p.m. in the chapel of Graham Funeral Home. The Rev. Norman Dudley officiated and burial followed with military rites in National Cemetery, Salisbury. The family received friends 30 minutes before the service.

Latasha Diane Imes
Latasha Diane Imes, 30, of New York, died April 27, 2009 after a brief illness.
She was born Sept. 20, 1978 in Far Rockaway, N.Y., daughter of George and Alfredia Imes Redmond. She joined Piney Grove AME Zion Church at an early age and attended Davie High School. She furthered her education in nursing, and worked as a CNA for several years.
She was preceded in death by her grandfathers, Andrew Redmond and David Dalton.
Survivors: her husband, Anthony McClelland and their 4 children, Nyeshia, Anitra, Akeon, Keshawn McClelland, all of New York; 2 stepsons, Khari and Antonio McClelland; her parents, George and Alfredia Redmond; God-parents, Caroline and Willie Ferrell; 4 brothers, Ramek Howell of Charlotte, Shawn Peebles of California, Tyrone James and Curtis Lewis, both of Mocksville; a sister, Tiffany James of Mocksville; a sister-in-law, Felicia Stevenson; her mother-in-law, Peggy McClelland; grandparents, Beaulah Redmond, Vivian Imes, Pauline Brown, and Buford Dalton; a special loved one, Hannah Lynch; a host of uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
The funeral service was held Wednesday, May 6 at noon at Piney Grove AME Zion Church in Harmony. The Rev. David Hoover officiated and burial followed in the church cemetery. The family received friends one hour before the service.

Pearl Anders Jordan
Mrs. Pearl Anders Jordan, 86, of Marconi Street, Mocksville, died Sunday, May 3, 2009, at Autumn Care of Mocksville.
She was born July 24, 1922, in McDowell County, W.Va. to the late Walter Glenn and Naomia Belcher Anders. Mrs. Jordan was a retired RN and was a member of First United Methodist Church in Mocksville. She enjoyed walking, crocheting, gardening and cooking, especially scalloped potatoes and chicken pie. She was also preceded in death by an infant son, Bill Harris Jordan Jr., her husband, Bill Harris Jordan Sr.; and a sister, Beulah Hartlage.
Survivors: her daughter, Melissa Ann Jordan of the home; a brother, Walter Glenn Anders Jr. of Texas; and special friend, Corey Foote of Mocksville. Burial was in Salisbury Historic National Cemetery. A memorial service will be held later.
Memorials: First Methodist Pastor Discretionary Fund, 310 N. Main St., Mocksville.

Wilma Essic Wittman
Mrs. Wilma Essic Wittman, 88, of Orange, Calif., died April 30, 2009.
Mrs. Wittman was born Dec. 29, 1920, in Davie County to the late John Frank and Mary McMath Essic. She attended Courtney High School, Mars Hill College and graduated from Appalachian State Teachers College (Appalachian State University) with a degree in education. Mrs. Wittman taught and administered in schools in North Carolina, Iowa, and California for 67 years, retiring in October of 2007, due to ill health. She was active in the National Education Association, Orange County Education Association, and served on numerous statewide committees on education in California.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Robert Wittman.
Survivors: a son, David Wittman, of Lake Tahoe, Nev.; 2 daughters, Jeanne Stewart and Vicki Wittman of Orang; 3 grandsons; 2 great-grandsons; 2 brothers, James E. Essic of Mocksville and Francis Essic of Gastonia.
A graveside service was to be conducted at 4 p.m., Thursday, May 7, at Farmington Community Cemetery with Dr. Ray Ammons officiating.

Cornelia Carson Howell
Mrs. Cornelia Carson “Toots” Howell, 81, died Saturday, May 2, 2009 at Willow-brook Healthcare Center.
She was born May 11, 1927 in Iredell County to the late Tanis and Sallie Mae Carson. She attended Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Hamptonville during her childhood. She attended Cedar Creek Baptist Church.
Her husband, Harding Boyce Howell, preceded her in death on Dec. 11, 1992. She was also preceded in death by a son, Harding Boyce Howell Jr.; daughters, Sarah Williams and Mozella H. Dobson; sister, Jettie Carson Smyre; brothers, William Bus Carson and Frank Carson.
Surviving: her daughters, Addie (Norman) Gillespie, Ruby Howell; 16 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; sister, Gladys Carson; son-in-law, Paul R. Dobson; sister-in-law, Rachel D. Carson; special niece, Mary Redmond; several other nieces, nephews and friends.
Her funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, May 9 at Cedar Creek Baptist Church by the Rev. C.A. Stewart. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service on Saturday from 2-3 at the church.
