- John Paul Keeley
Mr. John Paul Keeley, 42, of Ash Drive, Mocksville, died Sunday, Sept. 23, 2007, at his home.
Mr. Keeley was born May 11, 1965, in Dublin, Ireland. He was the district manager of Burger King in Greensboro. Mr. Keeley was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church.
He was preceded in death by his father, Andrew Keeley Sr.
Survivors: his wife of six years, Renee Page Keeley of the home; 2 daughters, Jennifer Crawford of Dublin, Ireland and Destiny Renee Eaves of the home; a son, John Andrew “Jack” Keeley of Chapel Hill; his mother, Susan (Keeley) Aherne and husband Michael of Dublin, Ireland; 3 brothers, Andrew (Collette) Keeley, Ken (Orla) Keeley and Richard Keeley, all of Dublin, Ireland; a grandson; and several nieces and nephews.
A mass of Christian burial was held at 8 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 27, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, with the Rev. Andrew Draper officiating. Burial will be in St. Fintans Cemetery in Dublin, Ireland.
Memorials: St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 862 Yadkinville Rd., Mocksville.

Guy Wesley Lyon Jr.
Guy Wesley Lyon Jr, 79, of US 64 West, Mocksville, died on Saturday, Sept. 29, 2007, at Forsyth Medical Center.
Born in Wilkes County on Oct. 26, 1927, he was the son of the late Guy Wesley Lyon Sr. and Lucy Crysel Lyon Hardin. Mr. Lyon was a retired DHIA supervisor for the state. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Mr. Lyon was also preceded in death by his wife, Mary Evelyn Bare Lyon.
Survivors: 4 daughters, Terry Lyon Markland of Winston-Salem, Patricia Lyon Carter and husband Charles Pedie of Advance, Ritz Ann Lyon Reeves and husband Eugene of Augusta, Ga., Debbie Lyon Chaffin and husband Tom of Mocksville; a brother, Robert Gary Hardin and wife Patty of Mooresville; 10 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
A service to celebrate the life of Mr. Lyon was conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 2, in the Davie Funeral Service Chapel with the Rev. Dr. Crystal Alexander officiating. Burial followed in Rose Cemetery. The family received friends Monday, Oct. 1 at Davie Funeral Service in Mocksville.
Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.

James Homer Barnes
Mr. James “Jimmy” Homer Barnes, 61, of Merrells Lake Road, Mocksville, died Thursday, Sept. 27, 2007, at his home.
Mr. Barnes was born July 28, 1946, in Davidson County to Vivian Irene Pack Barnes and the late Homer Sanford Barnes. He was a dairy farmer for 56 years, owner and operator of Hobar Dairy Farm and member of the N.C. Dairymens Association. Mr. Barnes was a member of Fulton United Methodist Church in Advance. He was a past member of Fork Volunteer Fire Department and the Fork Jaycees. Mr. Barnes loved spending time with his grandchildren and his great-nieces and great-nephews.
Survivors: his mother of Mocksville; 2 daughters, Stephanie (J.C.) Hendrix and Susan (Mitchell) Green, all of Mocksville, and their mother, Ann Barnes of Mocksville; a sister, Sandra Phelps of Mocksville; 4 grandchildren; 2 nieces; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
A funeral service was conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 30, at Fulton United Methodist Church in Advance, with the Rev. Dr. Crystal Alexander and Rev. Karl Kelly officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Dorothy Stacy
Dorothy Stacy, 71 of 214 Neely St., Mocksville, died Sept. 26 in Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home.
She was the daughter of the late Wilson and Azzilee Pulliam Clement.
A memorial service was held Wednesday, Oct. 3 at 5 p.m. in the chapel of Graham Funeral Home. Charles Hoose Jr. and Jerry Blackwell officiated.
Survivors: a daughter, Patricia Stacy of Philadelphia, Pa.; a grandchild; a brother, James P. (Rhonda) Clement Sr., of Mocksville.

Gary Lee Whitaker
Mr. Gary Lee Whitaker, 60. of Hamptonville, died Thursday, Sept. 27, 2007 at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center.
He was born Feb. 15, 1947 in Forsyth County to the late Oscar Roy Buck and Estelle Wall Whitaker.
He was also preceded in death by a sister and a brother.
Surviving: his wife, Mary F. Whitaker of the home; a daughter, Lisa (Isaac) Gonzalez, Hamptonville; a son, Marty (Stacy) Whitaker, King; 5 grandsons; a granddaughter; 3 sisters, Caroleen Speaks, Doris C. McDaniel, Shelby Mullis, all of Mocksville; a brother, James F. (Donna) Whitaker, Mocksville; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service was held at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Gentry Family Chapel by the Rev. Keith White.

Pansy Alberta Finney
Mrs. Pansy Alberta Hutchens Finney, 83, of Vanzant Road, Mocksville, died Monday, Oct. 1, 2007, at her home.
Mrs. Finney was born May 26, 1924, in Yadkin County, to the late Herman Clinton and Della Bryant Hutchens. She was a member of Charity Baptist Church in Boonville. Mrs. Finney was a gardener, especially working with flowers. She enjoyed watching and listening to the birds and quilting.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Hubert Finney on Dec. 4, 1994; a son, William Finney; a sister, Bernice Walker; and 3 brothers, Ray Hutchens, Jimmy Hutchens and Fred Hutchens.
Survivors: 2 daughters, Carol F. (Gerald) Huffman of Mocksville and Wanda F. Anderson of Charlotte; a sister, Lucy McClintock of Rhonda; 2 brothers, Frank (Hilda) Hutchens and Alvin (Kate) Hutchens, all of Boonville; 5 grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren.
A graveside service was conducted at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Oct. 3, at Glenwood Memorial Park in Mooresville. The family received friends Tuesday, Oct. 2, at Eaton Funeral Home.

Solomon Johnson
A graveside service at Clement Grove Church in Mocksville was held on Sunday, Sept. 30 at 5 p.m. for Solomon Johnson, newborn of Wesley and Tonya Johnson.
The Rev. Keith McDonald and Elder Raymond Robinson officiated.
Grandparents include Ruth Johnson of Mocksville, Hiawatha and Rose Gist of Winston-Salem.

Bobby Willard Hayes
Mr. Bobby Willard Hayes, 70, died Monday afternoon, Oct. 1, 2007 at Clare Bridge in Winston-Salem after a battle with Alzheimers disease. 
Mr. Hayes was born in Iredell County on June 6, 1937 to the late Lee Gordon and Elvie Harris Hayes.  He married Nanearle Davis on Sept. 28, 1957.  He was a graduate of Harmony High School and he retired from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. in 1990 with 33 years of service.  He was a motorcycle rider and enjoyed his retirement traveling and spending time with his family and friends.  He was a member of Macedonia Moravian Church, a member of the Fellowship Sunday School class and the Senior Friends. 
He was also preceded in death by an infant son, Brian Willard Hayes. 
Survivors: his wife and best friend, Nanearle Davis Hayes of the home; an uncle; sisters-in-law, Jean Wilson and husband Bill of Statesville, Carolyn Smith and husband Randal of Harmony; a brother-in-law, James Davis and wife T.J. Blake of Hudson; and several nieces and nephews. 
A funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 4 at Macedonia Moravian Church with the Rev. R. Jeff Carter officiating.  Burial will follow at Hebron Baptist Church in Statesville at 2:45 p.m.  The family was to receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Hayworth-Miller Kinderton Chapel in Advance.

Melvin Bernard Eccles
Melvin Bernard Eccles, 62, died Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2007 in Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home following an extended illness.
He was the son of the late Alexander and Ethel Studevent Eccles. He was born in Forsyth County on Sept. 11, 1945. Mr. Eccles grew up in Advance, and graduated from Davie High School. At an early age he was added to Redland Church of Christ. He worked in Connecticut for an ammunition factory. When he returned, he worked for Gravely Tractor and Haywood Pool. He formed his own successful business. He retired due to health reasons.
He was also preceded in death by a brother, Charles Eccles.
Survivors: his wife, Lucille Hicks Eccles of the home; 3 sons, Chris (Kristal) Hicks of Oak Ridge, Timothy (Christine) Eccles of Advance, and Dwayne Lynch of Yadkinville; 2 grandchildren; a uncle; an aunt; and a host of other relatives, church family and friends.
Funeral service was Saturday, Sept. 29 at 4:30 p.m. at Redland Church of Christ in Advance. Minister Larry Glenn officiated and burial followed in the church cemetery.

Carrie Phillips Pratt
Mrs. Carrie Margaret Buckingham Phillips Pratt, 92, of Ramars Court, Cooleemee and formerly of Tunnelton, W.Va., died Sunday, Sept. 30, 2007, at her home.
Mrs. Pratt was born May 16, 1915, in Rowlesburg, W.Va. to the late Orval Benjamin and Sadie Jane Burkett Buckingham. She was educated in the Preston County, W.Va. schools and was of the Methodist faith.  Mrs. Pratt was a charter member of the Cooleemee Womans Civitan Club. 
She was also preceded in death by her first husband, Howard Lincoln Shorty Phillips; her second husband, Floyd Harter Pratt; 2 sons, David Lee Phillips and Marvin Paul Phillips; a daughter, Deloris Mae Phillips Calvert; a grandson, John Darrell Campbell; 5 brothers, James William, Orval George, Guy Vernon, Walter and Edward Glenn; 3 sisters, Matilda Anderson Shaffer, Violet Alice Buckingham and Mary Buckingham Holmes. 
Survivors: 5 daughters, Mattie Jane (David) Byrd of Hamptonville and Elkin, Nina Smouse of Winston-Salem, Maryann (Lonnie) Campbell of Cooleemee, Linda Pearl Phillips and Cheryl Ann (James) Knight, all of Evansville, Ind.; 2 brothers, Jesse Charles and Arthur Clyde Buckingham, both of Kingwood, W.Va.; honorary daughter, Martha Whitehouse of Evansville, Ind.; 15 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; 22 great-great-grandchildren; 2 honorary grandchildren; a honorary great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service was conducted at 8 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 2, at Eaton Funeral Chapel with Chaplain Fred Moretz officiating.  Burial will be at a later date in Kingwood, W.Va. with services conducted by Rotruck-Lobb Funeral Home.
