Priscilla Mae Clark
Priscilla Mae Smoot Clark, 65, of Calahaln Road, Mocksville, died on Sunday, Sept. 16, 2007, at her home.
Born in Davie County on Sept. 20, 1941 she was the daughter of the late William Lawrence and Matalene Walker Smoot. Mrs. Clark was married to Raymond Arthur Clark for 40 years, who survives. She was a member of New Union Methodist Church. Mrs. Clark worked at Hanes Mills for 10 years, at Davie County Hospital for 27 years and retired from home healthcare.
Also surviving: a son, Thomas Eugene Clark II and wife Christy of Mocksville; a sister, Margie Smoot Roberson and husband Jimmy of Mocksville.
A celebration of life service was held Wednesday, Sept. 19, at 11 a.m. at Salem United Methodist Church with the Revs. Steven Blair and Wayne Swisher officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were Nelson Howard, David Monteleone, Dale Roberson, Junior Roberson, Jimmy Smoot and Jason Smoot. The family received friends on Tuesday, Sept. 18 at Davie Funeral Service.

Robert Glenn Gaither
Robert Glenn Gaither, 60, of Gardena, Calif. (formerly of Harmony) died on Sept. 11, 2007 at Marina Del Rey Daniel Freeman Hospital in Gardena.
He was the son of Edmonia Holman Gaither Hollis and the late Robert Gaither Jr.
Survivors: his wife Vikki Showe Gaither of the home; his parents, Robert and Edmonia Holman Gaither Hollis of Mocksville; 3 sisters, Sylvella Louise Gaither of Mocksville, Mary "Lynn" Gaither Newsome of Irvington, N.J., and Stella L. Hollis of Memphis, Tenn.; a brother, James Hollis of Horse-heads, N.Y.; a foster son, William Terrell Draden of Gardena; a close friend, James Hightower of Los Angeles, Calif.; a niece; 2 nephew; 2 great-nephews; many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
The family received friends on Tuesday, Sept. 18 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Graham Funeral Home in Mocksville. A brief graveside service was held at Palmetto Cemetery in Mocksville on Wednesday. The Rev. John Mason officiated.

Jennifer Lynn Bearden
Jennifer Lynn Bearden, 30, of Corries Lane, Mocksville, died Monday, Sept. 10, 2007, at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem after a 6-month battle with cancer.
Ms. Bearden was born in Marietta, Ga. She called North Carolina home. She was a loving, caring, giving mother and friend. Jennifer attended Soddy Daisy High School. She was a homemaker. She enjoyed bowling, swimming, playing card games, parks, and Reformers Unanimous at Trinity Baptist Church. The joy of her life was time spent with her children. Jennifer attended Franklin Baptist Church, Salisbury, but was a member of Trinity Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her grandfather, Andy Bearden.
Survivors: her children, Johnathan Tyler Bearden of Woodstock, Ga., Tamara Lynn Wilkey, Zackery Alfred Wilkey, and Steven Austin Bearden, all of the home; her parents, John and Donna Bearden of Woodstock; a brother, Christopher (Jennifer) Bearden of Joliet, Ill.; grandparents Bill and Evelyn Satterfield of Marietta, G. and Virginia Gambill of Acworth, Ga.
A memorial service was held on Saturday, Sept. 15 at Franklin Baptist Church, Salisbury. The Rev. Joe Thomas, pastor of Franklin Baptist Church and the Rev. Darrell Cox, pastor of Trinity Baptist Church, officiated.

Sadie Hall Taylor
Mrs. Sadie Hall Woodruff Hendon Taylor, 90, of Angell Road, Mocksville, died Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2007, at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem.
Mrs. Taylor was born Sept. 2, 1917, in Davie County to the late Charles Gaither and Ella McMahan Woodruff. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Mocksville. At one time she had served as a deacon in the Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Taylor was a graduate of Mocksville High School class of 1934 and from Montreat Junior College in 1936.
She was also preceded in death by her first husband, J. Frank Hendon in 1952; her second husband, Bowie Taylor in 1974; 2 brothers, Sanford A. Woodruff and Tom B. Woodruff; 2 sisters, Mildred W. Cherryholmes and Elizabeth W. Patterson.
Survivors: a daughter, Sadie (Jim) Thompson; a son, John F. (Alice) Hendon; 2 sisters, Jane Dwiggins and Eleanor Frye; a brother, Charles W. Woodruff; a grandson; a great-granddaughter; and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service was conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 16, at First Presbyterian Church in Mocksville. The family received friends at the church following the service.

Brown Porter
Mr. Brown Porter, 85, of the Cool Springs community, died unexpectedly Sunday, Sept. 16, 2007, at Iredell Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Porter was born on March 29, 1922, in Ashe County and was the son of the late Warner and Blanche Young Porter. In 1941, he was married in Mountain City, Tenn., to Virginia Vannoy Porter, who survives. He was self-employed as a farmer and was co-owner of Carpet Distributors. He was a member of Society Baptist Church.
Also surviving: a son, Eddie Porter and wife DeLane; a daughter, Kay Boan and husband, Gerald; 2 granddaughters; 2 grandsons; 8 great-grandchildren; 4 sisters, Opal White, Lorane Page, Ann Beaty and husband Blaine, Audrey Grillo and husband Pat; 2 sisters-in-law, Pat Porter and Lucille Porter; and a number of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Hazel Everhardt, and 3 brothers, Ralph Porter, Clive Porter and Feb Porter.
Graveside funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 18 at the Society Baptist Church Cemetery with Pastor David Childress officiating. The family visited with friends Monday at Nicholson Funeral Home, Statesville.

Darren Ray Ireland
Mr. Darren Ray Ireland, 38, of Mocksville, died Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2007, at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem.
He was born Sept. 1, 1969, in Davie County. Mr. Ireland graduated from Davie High School in 1987 and from Davidson County Community College Basic Law Enforcement Training in 1996. He was a lieutenant with the Davie County Sheriffs Department. Mr. Ireland was hired part-time Dec. 6, 1996, and went full-time Aug. 5. 1998; was active in the domestic violence prevention program since 1998; certified in crime scene investigations; certified as an Intoxilyzer operator; member of the sheriffs multi-agency interdiction team; received his radar operator certification in July of this year and was promoted to sergeant in January and to lieutenant in July. He was a blessing in many peoples lives, in uniform or not. Darren was a member of Calvary Baptist Church of Mocksville. His love for playing his guitar and writing songs was one of his greatest joys along with being with his family and friends, but his two greatest loves were his wife, Kristy and his daughter, Eden.
He was preceded in death by maternal grandparents, Lester and Catherine Frye; paternal grandmother, Mary Ireland; uncle, Kenneth Ireland; and 2 cousins, Jonathan “Jon Jon” Frye and Norma Jean Fowler.
Survivors: his wife of 10 years, Kristy McLeod Ireland of the home; a daughter, Eden Hellard of Walnut Cove; mother, Bonnie and Sam Lambert of Mocksville; father, Bobby and Jean Ireland of Hamptonville; a brother, Scott and Angel Ireland of Virginia Beach, Va.; paternal grandfather, Clyde Ireland of Mocksville; and many other family members.
A funeral service was conducted at 11 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 15, at Eaton Funeral Chapel with the Revs. Jim Gryder and Jimmy Lancaster officiating. Burial followed in Calvary Baptist Church Cemetery. The family received friends Friday, Sept. 14, at Eaton Funeral Home.

Jennifer Wittwer Turner
Jennifer Jean Wittwer Turner, 54, of Mocksville, an equestrian and horse-lover, died Sept. 12, 2007.
She was born Jan. 17, 1953 in Burbank, Calif. She got her first horse, Jumping Jake, when she was 7. She graduated from the University of Southern California and was trained as a dental hygienist. Her favorite place was in the saddle on the back of a horse. She was an accomplished hunter jumper.
Survivors: her daughter, Wendy Turner; her son, Gilbert Richard “Richie” Turner; her sister, Wendy Kennedy and husband Chris; her brother, William Richard Wittwer and wife Kris; her mother, Molly Struthers Jackson; and her father, Jean Richard Wittwer and wife Hazel; and many friends including Anne Austin Gould; her 9 horses and 3 dogs.
A memorial was held at Tanglewood Park on Tuesday, Sept. 18 at 6 p.m.

Clara Mae Foster
Mrs. Clara Mae Baity Foster, 91, of No Creek Road, Mocksville, died Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2007, at Alston Brook in Lexington.
Mrs. Foster was born Feb. 5, 1916, in Yadkin County, to the late John Wesley and Lela Belle Leach Baity. She retired from Davie County Hospital in 1983 and Manhattan Shirt Co. in 1974. Mrs. Foster was a member of Fork Baptist Church where she had served as a Sunday school teacher for 50 years, choir director for 15 years, family ministry committee and numerous other committees. She was the activities director with the Davie County Senior Citizens and a member of the Fifties Plus of Fork.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Gilmer Nathaniel Foster in 2005; a daughter, Gilda Howard; a grandchild, Kelly Livengood; 2 sisters, Mary Eliza West and Pansy Geneva Koontz; and a brother, Flake Baity.
Survivors: her children, John Wayne (Gaynell York) Foster Sr. of Lake Norman, Maretha Ann (Bill) Melton of Mocksville and Ava Lou (Quentin) Charles of Lexington; 8 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and 6 great-great-grandchildren.

Rufus Lee Angell
Mr. Rufus Lee Angell, 88, of State Road, died on Monday, Sept. 17, 2007 at Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital in Elkin.
He was born in Davie County on Jan. 11, 1919 to the late James Henry Angell and the late Mary McClamrock Angell. Mr. Angell was a member of Rocky Ford Baptist Church and was retired from Drexel Heritage Furniture.
Surviving: his wife, Stella Brown Angell of the home; 3 daughters and sons-in-law, Lisa Angell of the home, Diane and Kenneth Miller of Independence Va. and Tammy Novak of Sparta; 2 sons and daughters-in-law, James and Ellen Angell of Mountain Park and Stephen and Melissa Chipman of Roaring River; 3 grandchildren; and a brother, William Angell of Mocksville.
He was also preceded in death by 3 sisters, Geneva McCulloh, Adalade Whitaker and Helen Angell; and by a brother, John Henry Angell.
Funeral services were to be held a 2 p.m. Thursday, Sep. 20, at Rocky Ford Baptist Church with burial to follow in the Mountain Park Cemetery with full with military honors by Veterans of Foreign Wars Memorial Honor Guard, Mount Airy Post 2019 and Pilot Mountain Post 9436. The Revs. Claude Lloyd and Jerry Adams were to officiate. His body was to remain at Moody-Davis Funeral Home until carried to the church to lie in state 30 minutes before the service. The Family was to receive friends at Moody-Davis Funeral Home on Wednesday evening from 7-9.

Pansy Money Finney
Mrs. Pansy Money Finney, 96, of Jonesville, died Thursday, Sept. 13, 2007 at Hugh Chatham Nursing Center.
Mrs. Finney was born March 22, 1911 in Wilkes County to Willie B. and Ada Laster Money. She was a member of Little Elkin Baptist Church and was retired from Chatham Manufacturing.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Richard Lee Finney; 4 brothers, Harvey Money, Parks Money, Howard Money, Willie Money Jr.; and a sister, Alice Hammer.
Survivors: a son, Jonathan Leo Finney and wife Lou of Jonesville; 2 daughters, Evelyn Finney Lyons of Jonesville, Juanita Blackburn and husband Steve of Elkin; a brother, Arlen Money of Elkin; 2 sisters, Bretta Luffman and Hallie Luffman both of Elkin; 6 grandchildren, including Jeff Finney and wife Benita; and 9 great grandchildren.

Dorothy Reid Smith
Mrs. Dorothy Reid Smith, 81, of Advance, died Thursday, Sept. 13, 2007 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home.
She was born June 14, 1926 in Forsyth County to Vernon Odell Reid and Treva Spaugh Reid. Mrs. Smith was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and worked with the children’s ministry. She retired from Wachovia Bank.
Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by a son, Reid Nading Smith, who died in 1959; 2 sisters, Jean Wooten and Carol Jones; and son-in-law, Eugene Hartley.
Survivors: her husband of 60 years, Hebert N. Smith; a daughter, Brenda Smith Hartley of Lenoir; 2 grandchildren; 1 great-granddaughter; and a brother, Vernon Reid.
The service was held at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 17 at Vogler and Son’s Clemmons Chapel with Dr. Don Mann and the Rev. Gary Byrum officiating. Burial followed at Westlawn Gardens of Memory in Clemmons. The family received friends Sunday, Sept. 16 at the funeral home.

William Daniel Noakes
William Daniel Noakes of Bermuda Run died at his home on Monday, Sept. 17, 2007 surrounded by his family, after a lengthy and courageous battle with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy.
Mr. Noakes was born Feb. 6, 1931 in Flint Hill, Va.
Survivors: his wife, Jeanne; children, Nancy Wooldridge and husband Darrell, Dan Noakes and wife Robin, Ann Marie Irby and husband Stuart; 8 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; and a cousin.
He was preceded in death by his son, Jon Osborne Noakes and his great-grandson, William Holton Chaffin.
A private memorial service will be held for the family with Dennis Marshall officiating, on Saturday, Sept. 22. Following the service, friends are invited to join the family at 4 p.m. at Bermuda Run Country Club for a “Celebration of Bill’s Life.”
