John Wesley Wooten
Mr. John Wesley Wooten, 80, of Deadmon Road, Mocksville, died Wednesday, April 8, 2009, at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem.
He was born April 12, 1928, in Iredell County to the late Samuel and Vadie Denny Wooten. Mr. Wooten attended Trinity Baptist Church.
He was also preceded in death by 4 brothers, Preston Wooten, James Wooten, Harding Wooten and Bill Wooten.
Survivors: a brother, Dwight (Frankie) Wooten of Mocksville; a sister, Martha Ward of Woodleaf; several nieces and nephews; caregiver, Carolyn Wagner of Mocksville; and special friends, Henry Grant and Frances Straley, both of Mocksville.
A graveside service was conducted at 11 a.m., Friday, April 10, at Dutchman Creek Baptist Church Cemetery with Dr. Darrell Cox officiating.
Memorials: charity of the donor’s choice.

Phillip Blackwell
Phillip Blackwell, 73. died on Friday, April 10, 2009 at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem from complications of congestive heart failure.
He was born on Feb. 1, 1936 to the late Lynn and Mary Bet Blackwell. He grew up in Davie County, was a mechanic at Cooleemee Mills and an engine builder at Gravely of Clemmons. A few of his hobbies included building low boy trailers, welding, playing pool, trading, spending time with his grandchildren, and recycling things others considered as trash into artwork. He loved to make people laugh and was an entertainer when he sang or told jokes.
Survivors: his wife of 53 years, Betty Blackwell of the home; daughters, Betty (Terry) Steele of Advance, Mary Blackwell of Clemmons, Brenda Neshell Sims of Chicago, Ill.; sons, Phillip Jr. (Nadine) Blackwell of Mocksville and Donald Blackwell of Lewisville; a brother, Jake (Margaret) Blackwell; sisters, Ruby Frost, Della Clement and Norma Blackwell; brothers, Oscar (Linda) Blackwell, Clay Blackwell; and David (Libby) Blackwell; grandchildren, Sherri (Wesley) Moore, Tonica Johnson, Terry (T.A.) Steele, Jessica Blackwell, Donald (DJ) Blackwell, Tony Steele, Brian Blackwell, Bennie (BJ) Sims, Cameron Sims, Angel Sims and Layla Blackwell; 4 great-grandchildren; and a host of other nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Brenda Louise Blackwell; and a sister, Magdalene Frost
Funeral services will be held Friday, April 17 at 3 p.m. at Cedar Creek Baptist Church. Pastor C.A. Stewart will officiate and burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour before the service.

Earnest Alfred Smith
Earnest Alfred Smith Sr. 80, of Advance, died Wednesday, April 1, 2009 at Forsyth Medical Center.
He was born July 20, 1928 in Guilford County. He was retired from the furniture business and of the Baptist faith.
Survivors: his wife, Sandra Troutt Smith of the home; 2 daughters, Patsy and Becky (Keith); 2 sons, Earnest Jr. (Sheila) and Todd (Jaimie); 9 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; and his dog, Rusty.
A private family service will be held later.
Algylee McBride
Mrs. Algylee McBride, 101, died Wednesday, April 2, 2009 in Yeadon, Pa.
She was born March 15, 1908 in Harmony to the late Thomas F. Holman and Elizabeth Lizzie Hodge Holman. She was educated in the Davie County Schools and lived the majority of her adult life in Long Island, N.Y., where she was employed as a domestic worker. She was a dedicated member of her community Pentecostal church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Willie McBride, and a nephew she raised, Thomas Oglesby.
Survivors: 2 nieces, Algylee W. Rogers and Margaret Ann (Randall) Person; a great-niece and caretaker, Janine D. (Merrille R.)Parkinson, their children, Justin and Jaremy Parkinson; nephews Cornell (Dana S.) Holman, George Holman, Raymond (Margie) Holman; local relatives in the Davie and Rowan area include Edmonia Hollis, Lucille Ijames, Eva Turner, Nellie Ramseur, Omega Ijames, and Mary Holman.
Graveside service was held Friday, April 10 at noon at Palmetto Cemetery in Mocksville. The Rev. Norman Dudley officiated.

Andre Love, 58, of Abbey Lane, Mocksville, died on April 7, 2009 at his home.
