Obits: Week of April 9, 2009

- Donald Eugene Myers
Donald Eugene Myers, 67, of NC 801 S., Advance, died Friday, April 3, 2009, at Frye Regional Medical Center in Hickory.
Born in Forsyth County Feb. 18, 1942, he was the son of the late Marvin and Helen Sally Orrell Myers. He was a dairy farmer and member of Mocks United Methodist Church.
Survivors: a brother, Jimmy (Polly) Myers of Advance; and 3 sisters, Jean Dzeskewicz of Winston-Salem, Betty (Richard) Horn of East Bend and Pat (Terry) Idol of Kernersville.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ethel Little Myers, and a brother, Kermit Myers.
A graveside service to celebrate the life of Mr. Myers was held Sunday, April 5 at 3 p.m. in the Mocks United Methodist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Jonathan Brake officiating.

Wayne Emanuel Heath
Wayne Emanuel Heath, 43, died unexpectedly March 21, 2009 in Roanoke, Va.
He was born in Bronx, N.Y. March 1, 1966, and spent his early years in Winston-Salem. He graduated from North Forsyth High School in 1984. While in Winston-Salem he was employed at Oldtown Veterinary Hospital and the local police department. In Roanoke he was employed at Fred Whitaker Co.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Adriane A. Heath; his father, Joe L. Heath; his grandmother, Jessie L. Staton; his grandfather, Charlie G. Imes (who was a member of Clement Grove Church in Mocksville).
Survivors: his daughter, Chrishana Ashlee Robertson; his mother, Annie I. Heath; his sister, Deona L. Heath; 2 nieces, Dianne O. Heath and Marquea A. Heath; a nephew, Montise L. Heath; a great-niece, Adriane E. Heath; a great-nephew, Alexander E. Heath; 2 devoted friends, Capt. Thompson of Winston-Salem and Billy Fernandez Ray of Roanoke; other relatives and friends.
A memorial service was held Sunday, April 5 at 2:30 p.m. at Ephesus Seventh Day Adventist Church, Roanoke, with Pastor Godwin Mitchell officiating. The family received friends at the church 30 minutes before the service. Inurnment will be April 12 at 11 a.m. at Clement Grove Church of God of Mocksville.

Kenneth Earl Smith
The Rev. Kenneth Earl Smith, 85, of the Four Corners Community of Davie County, died Thursday, April 2, 2009.
He was born July 21, 1923, in Hettinger County, N.D. to the late Charles Augustus and Iva Belle Baker Smith. Mr. Smith was a member of Courtney Baptist Church in Yadkinville where he sang in the choir and had been a Sunday school teacher. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served during World War II. Mr. Smith was retired from Mclean Trucking Co. and had worked at 801 Shell where he was known as Colonel. Mr. Smith enjoyed gardening in his spare time.
He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Charlotte Seats Smith; a sister, Lucille Smith; 2 brothers, Casey and Doc Smith; and a grandson, Joshua Smith.
Survivors: his second wife, Bettie Shelton Smith of the home; 6 sons, Charles “Muggs” (Robin) Smith of Mocksville, Ronnie Smith of Toccoa, Ga., Thomas “Zero” (Patty) Smith of Mocksville, Danny Smith of Advance, Richard (Beth) Smith of Winston-Salem and Elliott (Linda) Smith of Dobson; 12 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; a stepdaughter, Patricia Potts (Terry) Hamm of Carolina Beach; a stepson, Jerry (Toni) Potts of Mocksville; 4 stepgrandchildren; 2 stepgreat-grandchildren; a sister, June (John) Franks of Rochester, Minn.; a sister-in-law, Alice Smith of Hill City, S.D.; a daughter-in-law, Linda (Keith) Latham of Mocksville; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service was conducted at 1 p.m., Saturday, April 4, at Courtney Baptist Church with the Rev. Ricky Atkins officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery, with Military Honors conducted by the Veterans of Foreign War Memorial Honor Guard. The family received friends Saturday, April 4, at the church.
