- Helen Hudson Cooley
Helen Hudson Rose Cooley, 59, of Kernersville, died on March 18, 2009 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem.
She was born in Davie County on June 12, 1949, daughter of the late Nathaniel Moultrey and Mary F. Hudson. She had been employed by the N.C. public school system as a cook and was a member of Kingdom Hall of Jehovahs Witness.
She was first married to Charlie Rose, who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Janet Johnson.
Survivors: her husband, James Cooley of the home; 2 sons, William C. Rose of Charlotte and Wendell N. Rose of Lexington; 4 daughters, Helen L .Rose and Stephanie Rose, both of Winston-Salem, Carletta (Richard) Jamison of Charlotte, and Karen D. Rose of High Point; 3 stepdaughters, Edna G. Means and Margaret Lewis of Winston-Salem; and Deborah Cooley of Lumberton; 3 brothers, Dale Johnson and Perry Johnson, both of Mocksville and William Johnson of Winston-Salem; a sister, Cynthia Johnson of Winston-Salem; other relatives and friends.
A memorial service was held Sunday, March 22, at 6 p.m. at Kingdom Hall of Kernersville.

Robert Donald Williams
Robert Donald Williams, 60, of Winston-Salem, died March 17, 2009 at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center.
He was born July 21, 1948 in Los Angeles, Calif. to the late Charlie Wilkerson and Ruby Williams Moyer. He was a lifelong resident of Winston- Salem, having graduated from Carver Consolidated School, class of 1966. Upon his graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force for four years along with his twin brother, Ronald. He was stationed at Travis AFB in Fairfield, Calif., completed a 13-month tour of duty in Korea and was honorably discharged in 1971. At a young age, he was added to the Church of Christ at Capernaum. Later, he became a loyal and dedicated servant of Carver Road Church of Christ. After 30 years working at Strohs Brewery, he co-founded Williams Removal and Transporting Service, along with his brother Charles. He was employed by Graham Funeral Home and Show Pro Security. A sports fan, he was a member of the Camel City Bowling League, a softball umpire, and a fan of the Washington Redskins. Sunday night football was a favorite pastime. In the 70s, he was one of the coaches and sponsors of The Phillies, a girls softball team.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 aunts, Pauline Wilson and Mary Dulin; 2 uncles, Ernest and Alfred Williams; and a first cousin, Reginald Dulin.
Survivors: his wife, Jacquelyn H. Williams; a daughter, Felicia Nikki Williams of Raleigh; 2 brothers, his twin Charles Ronald Williams of Winston-Salem and Michael Wilkerson of Monroe; sister, Jo Ann (Pink) Merritt of Reading, Pa.; 3 uncles Willie G. Williams of Durham; and Richard (Lessie) Williams and Frank Dulin, both of Winston-Salem; an aunt, Margaret Ware of Randleman; a host of brothers and sisters in law; a cousin, Jackie (Worth) McCloud of Winston-Salem; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends, including the Graham Funeral Home family and staff.
Funeral service was held Saturday, March 21, at 1 p.m. at Carver Road Church of Christ in Winston-Salem. Brother Jefferson Caruthers Jr. officiated and burial followed in Gardens of Memory Cemetery in Walkertown. The family received friends one hour before the service.

Sharron Leigh Modlin
Sharron Leigh Williams Modlin, 59, of Salisbury, died March 8, 2009 at Rowan Regional Medical Center after a short illness.
She was born Nov. 7, 1949 in Salisbury to Leonard Lee Williams and the late Gertrude Beatrice Rex Williams. She was a graduate of Boyden High School class of 1967. She worked at Food Lion for 28 years, and went on to be the branch manager at Premier Federal Credit Union at the Veterans Administration Medical Center for 14 years. She was a member of Enon Baptist Church. She was a reader, and enjoyed doing craft shows with her sister Carol, and traveling with her sister Pat and husband Dan.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Danny Ray Modlin.
Survivors: 2 sons, Aaron Lee Modlin and wife Emily of Salisbury, Jeffery Alan Modlin of Salisbury, 2 sisters Carol Head and husband Bob of Cooleemee, Pat Patrick and husband Dan of Merritt Island, Fla.; 2 grandchildren, Bailey and Kaleb Modlin; 5 nieces; a nephew; and 11 cousins.
A memorial service was held at 4 p.m. Thursday, March 12 at Summersett Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Jeremy R. Varner, former pastor of Maranatha Bible Church.

Elmer Daws Wooten
Mr. Elmer Daws Wooten, 82, of Railroad Street, Mocksville, died Wednesday, March 18, 2009, at Autumn Care of Mocksville.
He was born Feb. 24, 1927, in Davie County to the late Robert Gaither and Arleasia Eulalia Stroud Wooten. Mr. Wooten was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served as a prison guard at the Nuremberg Trials during World War II. He was retired from Lexington Furniture, but had worked at Drexel-Heritage Furniture. Mr. Wooten attended Liberty Weslyan Church in Harmony and was a faithful Sunday school member and volunteered at the Davie County Senior Center. Mr. Wooten enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors: 4 daughters, Diane (Douglas) Earp of Granite Falls, Patricia (Charlie) Clinard of Advance, Sandra (Randy) Bost of Mocksville and Karen Wall (Kenneth Sheriff) of Mocksville; 4 siblings, Junia (Charles) Apple of Asheboro, Claude (Naomi) Wooten of Harmony, Eloise Stephens of Harmony and R.G. (Judy) Wooten of Mocksville; 9 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; and special friend, Kathleen Bailey of Advance.
A funeral service was conducted at 2 p.m., Saturday, March 21, at Eaton Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Greg Manser and the Rev. Charles Apple and Jeremy Funderburk officiating. Burial followed in Liberty Weslyan Church Cemetery, with military honors conducted by the Veterans of Foreign War Memorial Honor Guard. The family received friends Saturday at the funeral home.
