- William Ray Clement
William Ray Clement, 67, died Saturday, Sept. 22, 2007 at Davie County Hospital.
He was born in Catawba County on Dec. 20, 1939, son of the late William Edward and Beatrice Coulter Clement. He graduated from Davie County Training School in 1958. He was a member of Cedar Grove Baptist Church where he served as a trustee. Early in life he served in the U.S. Army four years and received an Honorable Discharge in 1961. He co-owned B&R Cleaning Service with his brother "Buster" for over 35 years.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Evelyn C. Scott.
Survivors: his wife of 45 years, Martha Jean Dalton Clement of the home; 3 children, Constance C. (Woodrow) Boler of Richmond, Va., Audrey C. (Algen) Carter of Apex, and Dale Ray (Tamara) Clement of Mocksville; 5 grandchildren; a brother, James "Buster" (Louise) Clement; a host of other relatives and many friends.
Funeral service were scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 27 at noon at Cedar Grove Baptist Church in Mocksville. The Rev. Rodney Coleman was to officiate with burial following in the church cemetery. The family was to receive friends one hour before the service.
Memorials: Davie County Training School, Scholarship Fund, 635 Wilkesboro St., Mocksville.

Joshua Trenan Smith
Mr. Joshua Trenan Smith, 28, of Jesse King Road, Advance, died Friday, Sept. 21, 2007 at WFU Baptist Medical Center as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident one month prior.
He was born in Forsyth County on Jan. 30, 1979 to Debra Jane Shelton Beauchamp and Thomas A. Smith. Joshua had attended Freedom Baptist Church in Mocksville, was a graduate of Davie High School class of 1997, and was employed as an auto mechanic. He also loved visiting the North Carolina mountains.
Survivors: his wife, Erin Marie Cralley Smith, a daughter, Ryah Elizabeth Smith, a son, Trenan Jesse Smith, all of Franklin, Pa.; his mother, Debby Shelton Beauchamp (Phillip) of Advance; his father, Thomas A. Smith (Patty) of Mocksville; 4 brothers, Jeremy Smith of Durham, Joel Smith, Jacob Beauchamp and Josiah Beauchamp, all of Advance; maternal grandparents, Cletus and Norma Shelton of Winston-Salem; mother and father-in-law, Dennis and Jackie Cralley of Franklin, Pa.; and paternal grandfather, Kenneth Smith of Four Corners.
A funeral service was conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 23, 2007 at Freedom Baptist Church with Pastor Will Pryor officiating. Burial was in Fraternity Church of the Brethren Cemetery in Winston-Salem. The family received friends Saturday, Sept. 22 at Eaton Funeral Home in Mocksville.

Gladys A. Foulds
Gladys A Foulds, born Gladys Mae Almond on June 20, 1924 in Providence, R.I., the daughter of Robert Almond and Gladys Jordan, died on Sept. 18, 2007 in Winston-Salem.
Survivors: her husband of 62 years, Edward J. Foulds of Bermuda Run; her children, Marcia A. Foulds of Branford, Conn., and John E. Foulds of Ridgefield, Conn.; 7 grandchildren; a great-grandson; sisters, Ellen Stuart, Mary Lou O’Brien and Ruth Almond; and her brother, David Almond.
Mrs. Foulds was a former employee of Connecticut National Bank in Bridgeport, a board member of Christian Women’s Association of Forsyth County and an active member of the Davie Family YMCA, as well as the Clemmons Presbyterian Church.
The family received friends Sept. 20 at Clemmons Presbyterian Church. A memorial service was held at 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 21 at the church.

Geneva Gregory Cuthrell
Mrs. Geneva Blaylock Gregory Cuthrell, 87, formerly of Cooleemee, died Friday, Sept. 14, 2007, at Autumn Care of Mocksville.
Mrs. Cuthrell was born March 1, 1920, in Rowan County. Mrs. Cuthrell was a charter member of Edgewood Baptist Church in Cooleemee.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, James Gregory Sr.; second husband, James Cuthrell; and a grandson, James Kyle Gregory.
Survivors: 2 daughters, Priscilla (Del) McCullough and Wanda James, all of Mocksville; 2 sons, James (Linda) Gregory Jr. of Mocksville and Joe Gregory of Gastonia; a sister, Iona Canupp of Autumn Care of Mocksville; 10 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
A graveside service was conducted at 2 p.m., Monday, Sept. 17, at Liberty United Methodist Church Cemetery with the Revs. Clyde Settle, Don Routh and Dr. Van Lankford.

Allen Wayne Smyre
Mr. Allen Wayne Smyre, 55, of Statesville, died at Mission Hospital, Asheville, on Saturday, Sept. 22, 2007.
He was born in Iredell County, Dec. 22, 1951, and was the son of the late James F. Smyre and Evelyn Redmond Smyre. He was a graduate of Unity High School and at an early age was a member of Siloam AME Zion Church. He was employed by Mountain Creek Construction Co. for 22 years. His favorite hobbies were wood carving, fishing, and landscaping.
Survivors: a son, Preston Smyre of Statesville; 3 daughters, Kristina Lewis of Tampa, Fla., Erica White of Harmony, and Keresha Allison of Statesville; 4 brothers, James L. (Norma) Smyre of Harmony; Ralph (Darlene) Smyre of Kannapolis; Roy Smyre of Union Grove, and Ricky Smyre of Troutman; 4 sisters, Jo-Evelyn (James) Summers, Betty Jean (Charlie) Robinson, and Annie S. Eckles, all of Statesville; and Helen (Leonard) Byers of Troutman; 4 uncles; 3 aunts; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were at 1 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 26, at the Mary B. Bigham Memorial Chapel, Rutledge and Bigham Funeral Home. The Rev. Norman C. Dudley officiated and burial followed in the Belmont Cemetery.

Helen Beatrice Atkins
Mrs. Helen Beatrice Spence Atkins, 88, of Ken Dwiggins Drive, Mocksville, died Sunday, Sept. 23, 2007, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem.
Mrs. Atkins was born Dec. 12, 1918, in Fort Totten, N.Y., to the late Albert and Eva Slavik Spence. She attended Redland Pentecostal Holiness Church in Advance. Mrs. Atkins was a published author of short stories and poetry as well as a painter.  She was intrigued by Elizabethan English and Egyptian history.  Mrs. Atkins enjoyed reading and the company of cats. 
She was also preceded in death by a brother, William Spence. 
Survivors: her husband, Paul William Decker of Mocksville; 2 daughters, Gail Spence Atkins of San Francisco, Calif. and Robin (Steve) Deane of Mocksville; a son, Guy (Rochelle) Atkins of Puyallup, Wash.; 4 grandchildren; and 4 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be conducted at a later date.

Glenn Wilson
Glenn Wilson, 92, died Friday, Sept. 21, 2007.
He was born Sept. 8, 1915 to the late Daniel and Annie Ijames Wilson. He was united in marriage to the former Mattie Neely, and to this union eight children were born; one of the twins died shortly after birth. After the loss of his wife, Mattie in December 1959, Glenn married Juanita Brandon and was blessed with two more daughters that instantly became his. Juanita preceded him in death on March 4, 2004. Wilson worked as a share-cropper in his younger years, and was a logger for a lumber company. After being added to the Redland Church of Christ in 1960, he worked as a mail clerk at Cooleemee Mills. He worked at Cannon Mills and Fiber Industries. Later he began preaching and traveled to Lincolnton from Woodleaf every Sunday for several years. After the death of Quincy Carter, Wilson was asked to become the minister of Smith Street Church of Christ in Kannapolis. He preached there until he and his wife moved to Rock Hill, S.C. At that time, he associated himself with Derek Franklin and Crawford Road Church of Christ, where he remained a faithful member and one of the assistant ministers until his death.
Survivors: 9 children, Richard Wilson, Mildred Bares, George (Cottie) Wilson, Mary Lassiter, Glennie Latten, Particia Copeland, Claudine (Larry) Clark, Vonnie (Eddie) Cunningham, and James (Deborah) Wilson; 3 brothers, Allen and Raymond Wilson of Inwood, N.Y., and Wilmer "Pete" Wilson of Detroit, Mich; 27 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great-grandchildren; a host of other relatives and friends.
His funeral service will be held Saturday, Sept. 29 at noon at Redland Church of Christ in Advance. Brother Larry Glenn will officiate and Brother Derek Franklin will be the eulogist. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends 30 minutes before the service.

Nancy Reavis Jones
Mrs. Nancy Elizabeth Reavis Jones, 69, of Liberty Church Road, Mocksville, died Monday, Sept. 24, 2007.
Mrs. Jones was born Aug. 14, 1938, in Davie County to the late T.C. and Mamie Driver Reavis. She retired from Sara Lee Knitwear after 41 years and was a member of Blaise Baptist Church. Mrs. Jones loved her grandchildren and great-grandchild.
Survivors: her husband, Roscoe "Buck" Jones Jr. of the home; 3 sons, Mark (Gwyn) Jones of Mocksville, Todd (Jean) Jones of Michigan and Neal Jones of Mocksville; a sister, Lucille Melton of Mocksville; a half brother, Felix Reavis of Clemmons; 11 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
The funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 27, at Blaise Baptist Church, with the Revs. Glenn Sellers, Ken Furches and Timothy Wolfe officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. The family was to receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 26, at Eaton Funeral Home in Mocksville.

KayLynn Hansen
Mrs. KayLynn Hendrickson Hansen, 61, of Advance died Sept. 20, 2007 at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem. 
She was born in Salt Lake City, Utah to the late Myra Obray Hendrickson and Vance H. Hendrickson. She was honored to be Miss Magna, Salt Lake County Fair Sweetheart and Miss Utah Air National Guard. She attended Utah State University where she was a member of Chi Omega Sorority, commander of the ROTC Angel Flight and Dream Girl of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity.  She married Andrew Bennett Hansen on Aug. 25, 1966 in Salt Lake City, Utah.  They have made their home in Advance for the past 29 years where they raised their children, Scott and Cara.  She was a member of Bethlehem United Methodist Church in Advance, where she sang in the choir and was active in United Methodist Women.  She was also a faithful volunteer at The Storehouse for Jesus in Mocksville and was involved in Relay for Life from its inception. 
Survivors: her husband, Andrew; daughter, Cara Stovesand and husband Derek; a son, Scott Hansen and wife Joanna; 2 grandchildren; a sister, Marsha Miracle and husband Dan; 2 nephews; sister-in-law, Celia Woodcock and husband Bob; a niece and 2 nephews; and her extended family and friends.
Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 24 at Bethlehem United Methodist Church. Burial followed in the church cemetery. The family received friends Sunday evening at Hayworth-Miller Kinderton Chapel.

Mary Frances Faircloth
Mrs. Mary Frances Hunter Faircloth, 82, of Advance, died Friday, Sept. 21, 2007 at Forsyth Medical Center.
She was born January 13, 1925 in Forsyth County to Frank Baker and Ora Gray Lakey Hunter. Mary was a longtime member of Macedonia Moravian Church and a member of Cornerstone Christian Church. She retired from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co., after 36 years plus service. The love of her God and for doing the best she could to raise her children to be decent and fair people was her legacy.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 56 years, Eugene Bill Faircloth, a son, Fred Baker Faircloth, 2 brothers, F. Beverly Hunter and Samuel L. Hunter, a sister, Harriett H. Downey.
Survivors: 3 daughters, Ann Brown and husband Donald of Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., Pamela J. Faircloth of Wilmington, Karen Faircloth Lowery and husband Stanley of Mocksville; 4 grandchildren; and 2 great-granddaughters.
A memorial service was conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 29 at Hayworth-Miller Kinder-ton Chapel with the Revs. Greg Little, Jeff Carter, and Joey Yokeley officiating. Internment followed at Macedonia Moravian Graveyard.
A graveside memorial service was also held for her son, Fred Baker Faircloth.
The family received friends Friday, Sept. 28 at the funeral home.

Lillian Azalee Pruitt
Mrs. Lillian Azalee Fortune Pruitt, 81, died Sept. 20, 2007 at Kindred Hospital in Greensboro following a serious illness of five months.
She was born May 10, 1926 in Commerce, Ga., daughter of the late William D. and Arrena Morris Fortune. She attended R.A. Clement School in Cleveland and Davie County Training School in Mocksville. Early in life she joined New Bethel Baptist Church, and later she joined Erwin Temple CME Church, where she was an active and faithful member. She served in the Missionary Society, the Stewardess Board, Senior Choir, Pastor's Aid, Flower Committee, Willing Workers, and Gospel Travelers. On Aug. 1, 1948, she was married to Levanderbilt Pruitt, with whom she shared 59 years. Her first job was a domestic worker for the Hanfords of Salisbury (Sen. Elizabeth Dole's family). Later she worked was a dietician at Cooleemee Elementary School for 12 years, and retired from Autumn Care in Mocksville as a CNA. Sewing, cooking, and singing were her favorite pastimes. Sunday gatherings were always an enjoyable time for all the children and grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by all of her siblings, including 6 brothers and 9 sisters.
Survivors: her husband, Levanderbilt Pruitt of the home; 2 sons, Levi Pruitt and Lonell (Phyllis) both of Cooleemee; 2 daughters, Azalee (Howard) Stockton and Delores (Charles) Deese both of Cooleemee; 21 grandchildren; 47 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; a close friend, Joe Spaugh of Cooleemee; several other relatives and many friends.
Services at Erwin Temple CME Church included a family visitation and singing program on Sunday night from 6:30-8, and funeral Monday at 4 p.m. The Rev. Ervin Hannah Jr. officiated and burial followed in the church cemetery.

William Eugene Morgan
William Eugene “Bobby” Morgan, 78, died Friday, Sept. 21, 2007 he in Forsyth Medical Center following an extended illness.
He was born Aug. 30, 1929 in Davie County, son of the late Henry and Percie Foster Morgan. He graduated from Davie County Training School in 1947 and received a bachelor’s degree from Johnson C. Smith University. For 26 years he was a school teacher in Georgia, starting at Ethel W. Kight High School in LaGrange. After integration of schools in 1970, he taught at Troup High School in LaGrange until retirement. Following his retirement he returned to Mocksville, to care for his sister, Jennie. Bobby was a quiet person who loved sports, and was crafty with tools, doing repairs at his home. At an early age he joined Smith Grove AME Zion Church.
He was preceded in death by a brother, L.V. Morgan; 3 sisters, Viola Morgan, Jennie B. Morgan, and Dorothy McCullough.
Survivors: a brother, Ernest F. (Dorothy) Morgan of Buffalo, N.Y.; 3 nieces; 5 nephews; several cousins, other relatives and friends.
Funeral service was held Wednesday, Sept. 26 at 3 p.m. at Smith Grove AME Zion Church. The Rev. Marcus Farmer officiated and burial followed in the church cemetery.
