- Claude H. Clawson
Claude H. Clawson was born on Aug. 3, 1920, and died on Feb. 27, 2009.
A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 14 at Friends Baptist Church, 1840 Lewisville/Clemmons Road, Clemmons.
Survivors: his family of Columbus, Ohio; his brother, Jesse Marshall Clawson of Clemmons; and his sister, Nellie Clawson Lagle of Cooleemee.

Lula Belle Hurt
Mrs. Lula Belle Ratcliff Hurt, 73, of US 158, Mocksville, died Sunday, March 8, 2009, at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem.
She was born March 12, 1935, in Tazewell County, Va. to the late James Roscoe and Judith Edna Hurt Ratcliff. Mrs. Hurt was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church and was retired from Andrews Professional Products. She was a member of the Cookie Cutter Collector Club and the High Point Sewing Club. Mrs. Hurt enjoyed quilting, embroidery and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by 3 sisters, Elizabeth Pack, Lois Dowdy and Havigail Payne; 2 brothers, Frank and Dan Ratcliff; and her Chihuahua, Tiny.
Survivors: her husband, Roy Edward Hurt of the home; 3 children, Roy L.(Teresa) Hurt, Patricia (Jeff) Paige and Kit (Christina) Hurt, all of Mocksville; a sister, Marie Lankford of Roanoke, Va.; 3 brothers, Oscar (Margaret) Ratcliff of Lake Station, Ind., John (Jackie) Ratcliff of Chesterfield, Va. and Martin (Martha) Ratcliff of Roanoke, Va.; 7 grandchildren, Lynette Hurt Hicks of Harmony, Shane (Nora) Paige of Mt. Airy, Daniel (Donna) Hurt of Mocksville, Andrew Paige of Fayetteville, and Christopher, Landon and Abbe Hurt, all of Mocksville; 5 great-grandchildren, Kolby Hurt, Ashlyn and Avery Hicks, all of Mocksville, and John Shirley and Alison Paige, both of Mt. Airy; and one of many special friends, Bonnie McDaniel.
A funeral service was conducted at 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, March 11, at Eaton Funeral Chapel with Pastor Mike Hill and Elder Archer Livengood officiating. Burial followed in Rose Cemetery. The family received friends Tuesday, March 10, at Eaton Funeral Home.

Beatrice Sherrill Reavis
Mrs. Beatrice Sherrill Reavis, 83, of Yadkinville Road, Mocksville, died Saturday, March 7, 2009, at Davie Place Residential Care.
Born April 6, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Ranious Monroe and Minnie Lee Houston Sherrill. A charter member of Blaise Baptist Church, she kept the nursery for many years. She was a life member of DAV and VFW auxiliaries. Mrs. Reavis retired from Wonderknit Manufacturing in 1988.
She was preceded in death by an infant son and brothers, Eurrell, Asa, Paul, and Howard Sherrill and sisters, Ila Sherrill, Eulalie Lipe, Rachel Hendrix, and Edith Essic.
Survivors: her husband of 63 years, James Patrick Reavis Sr. of the home; 2 daughters, Pamela (Steve) Brown of Marion and Patricia (John) Jones of Knightdale; a son, James P. Reavis Jr. (Iona) of Mocksville; 4 granddaughters, Kaitlyn and Meredith Jones and Amanda and Jordan Reavis; a brother, Tom Sherrill of Kannapolis; and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Monday, March 9, at Eaton Funeral Chapel with the Revs. Glenn Sellers and Ken Furches officiating. Burial was in Rowan Memorial Park in Salisbury. The family received friends Monday at Eaton.

Virginia Burner Shaw
Clara Virginia Burner Shaw of Berea, Ohio, grandmother of Bob Sinclair of Mocksville, died on March 6, 2009, in her 100th year.
She was born in Belington, W.Va., on May 18, 1909, the daughter of the late William Henry Bunk and Daisy Dean Parker Burner. She was also preceded in death by son, Russell L. Shaw; sister Mary Mitchell; 2 brothers, William Bud Burner and Charles F. Burner; and 2 sons-in-law, Robert Bob Cole and David O’Connor.
Her husband, William Lemuel Bill Shaw, whom she married in March 1928, preceded her in death in September, 1981. He had been a coal mine superintendent in Galloway, Century, Monterville, and Madison, W.Va.
Surviving: 3 daughters, Patricia Jo Hinkle with whom she made her home; Virginia Lee Sinclair, Wheeling, W.Va.; Margaret Edith Cole O’Connor, Cincinnati, Ohio; daughter-in-law, Gay Fucci Shaw, West Long Branch, N.J.; 12 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; 8 great-great-grandchildren; and sister, Margaret Daugherty, Medina, Ohio.
Mrs. Shaw attended Marys Chapel Church for many years where she taught Sunday School and played the piano. She attended Central UM Church in Buckhannon; belonged to the WSCS, College Club, St. Joseph Hospital Auxiliary, and the Philippi Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star.
Friends and family will be received from noon-2 p.m. Saturday, March 14, in Marys Chapel Church at Corders Crossing, Philippi. Following the 2 p.m. service, she was laid to rest near family members and next to her husband in the Marys Chapel Cemetery.
