Elmer Warren Day Sr.
The Rev. Elmer Warren Day Sr. died on Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2008 at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem.
He was born on July 27, 1921, in Warrensville to the late Jesse and Bonnie Wyatt Day. He was a member and pastor emeritus of Cornatzer Baptist Church. Day served as pastor of Cornatzer Baptist in Davie County for 36 years. He also served as pastor at Smith Grove Baptist Church in Davidson County, and at Lookout Baptist Church in Fayette County, W.Va. Day taught at Piedmont Baptist College in Winston-Salem, and was an emeritus member of the General Council of Baptist Mid-Missions in Cleveland, Ohio. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served under Gen. Douglas MacArthur in the Philippines during World War II.
He was also preceded in death by 2 sisters, Blanche Powers and Pauline Bailey; and abrother, Verner Day.
Survivors: his wife of 59 years, Hope McClung Day; 4 children, Bonnie (David) Washburn, Warren (Junette) Day, Danny (Jane) Day, and Lois (Larry) Carter; 9 grandchildren, Amy, Davy, Andy, Jason, Jennifer, Justin, Clint, Sara and Hope; 7 great-grandchildren, Jacob, Trevor, Tyler, Nathaniel, Aubrey, Cade, and Timothy; a sister, Daphine Acord ; and a brother, the Rev. Robert Day.
Preacher Day’s life and service was honored and remembered at Cornatzer Baptist Saturday, Dec. 20. The body was placed in the church from 10-11 a.m. The service began at 11, with Pastor Jeff Beverly officiating. The family received friends in the fellowship building after the service.

Billy Eugene Myers
Mr. Billy Eugene Myers, 75, of Advance, died Friday, Dec. 19, 2008 at Forsyth Medical Center.
He was born June 10, 1933 in Davie County to the late Ollie and Florence Boger Myers. Mr. Myers was a member of Elbaville United Methodist Church, served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and had retired from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. after 35 years.
Surviving: his wife, Elizabeth “Lib” Myers of the home; 3 children, Carolyn M. Gough and husband Roy of Clemmons, David Myers of Jacksonville, Fla. and Richard “Rick” Myers and wife Crystil of Advance; 8 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; a sister, Hazel Phelps of Advance; 3 brothers, Raymond C. Myers of Easley, S.C., Travis Lee Myers of Rural Hall and Alvin L. Myers and wife Betty of Advance; several nieces and nephews; and a special thanks to Glenn Myers, Nancy Reavis and Christa Myers.
A funeral service was conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 23 at Elbaville United Methodist Church by the Rev. Kirk Tutterow. Burial followed in the church cemetery. The family received friends Monday at Hayworth-Miller Kinderton Chapel.

Phyllis Winecoff Nantz
Phyllis Winecoff Nantz, 73, of Mocksville, died on Thursday, Dec. 18, 2008 at Forsyth Medical Center.
She was born on Nov. 2, 1936 in Iredell County, to the late Hampton and Maggie Wilhelm Winecoff.
She was also preceded in death by a son, Billy M. Nantz; brothers, Edgar and Bill Winecoff; sister, Thelma Brown.
Survivors: her husband of 53 years, Johnny M. Nantz; children, Cindy A. Nantz of Winston-Salem, Rodney D. Nantz of Cornelius; brother, James Winecoff of Mooresville; sisters, Peggy Garwood of Troutman, Gwen Light of Mooresville; grandchildren, Jonathon Nantz, Jacqueline Nantz, and Zack Nantz.
Her funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 21 at Cavin-Cook Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Roger Wood officiating. Burial followed at Glenwood Memorial Park.
Mildred Jewell Tillman
Mildred Jewell Tillman, 77, died Dec. 20 in Statesville.
Her funeral service will be Wednesday, Dec. 24 at 1 p.m. at Mt. Nebo Baptist Church in Harmony. Elder Lonnie Clark will officiate and the Rev. Jeffrey Miller will be the eulogist. Burial will follow in the cemetery of First Baptist Church, Harmony. The family will receive friends one hour before the service.

Edith White Keaton
Mrs. Edith White Keaton, 80, of Wyo Road , Mocksville, died on Saturday, Dec. 20, 2008.
She was born May 26, 1928, in Davie County to the late Lemuel L. and Alma Alberta Latham White. Mrs. Keaton was a 1948 graduate of Mocksville High School. She was member of Mt. Olive United Methodist Church on Wyo Road in Yadkin County where she sang in the choir. She loved her church and church family. She had been employed by Southeastern Sewing, Monleigh, B&F, Blackwelder and Carolina Manufacturing. She enjoyed making basket handles, baskets, quilts, doing embroidery and sewing.
She was also preceded in death by her husband of 37 years, James Lester Less Keaton on Dec. 31, 1994; and a brother, Carl White.
Survivors: 3 daughters, Pamela K. (Gary) Tolley of Elk Park, Betty K. (Bennie) Smith of Mocksville and Elizabeth K. (Johnny) Allison of Winston-Salem; 3 grandchildren, Leslie Anne Chandler, Stephanie Miranda Foster and Matthew Wayne Felts; 2 stepgrandchildren, Lindsay Nichole Allison and Kyrsten Laine Allison; a great-granddaughter, Haley Ryan Foster; 2 sisters, Betty Sue Smith of Mocksville and Jane (Jack) Carter of Advance; 3 brothers, Leon (Nancy) White, Grady (Ann) White and Johnny White, all of Mocksville. The family received friends Monday, Dec. 22, at Eaton Funeral Home.
A funeral service was conducted at 1 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 23, at Eaton Funeral Chapel with Wayne Miller officiating. Burial followed at Westlawn Gardens of Memory in Clemmons.
