Robert Lewis Frye
Mr. Robert Lewis Frye, 55, of Hickory, formerly of Mocksville, died Thursday, Dec. 11, 2008, at Frye Regional Medical Center in Hickory.
He was born April 30, 1953, in Davie County to the late Lester Eugene and Naomi Catherine West Frye. Mr. Frye had been a manager with Scotchman Stores and had been a manager with Capt. Dicks Marina in Myrtle Beach. He was a graduate of Davie High School, class of l971, was a NASCAR fan, enjoyed fishing, playing the banjo, guitar and loved pets. He attended Calvary Baptist Church in Mocksville.
Survivors: his wife, Karen Murphy Frye of the home; a son, Scott Frye of Charlotte; a stepson, Trey Starnes of Arlington, Va; 7 sisters, Nellie Couch, Annie Call, Betty (Boyd) Trivette, Ruth (Joe) Smith, Sue (Bobby) Caudle, Linda Gaither and Bonnie (Sam) Lamberth, all of Mocksville; 3 brothers, John L. (Dee) Frye, Calvin E. (Malinda) Frye, both of Mocksville and Roger D. (Darlene) Frye of Spartanburg, S.C.; numerous nieces and nephews; and a special friend and neighbor, Odell Moose of Hickory.
A funeral service was held at 2 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 14, at Calvary Baptist Church with the Rev. Jim Gryder officiating. The body was placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial followed in the church cemetery. The family received friends Saturday, Dec. 13, at Eaton Funeral Home.

Sadie Diane Rhynehardt
Sadie Diana “Boss” Hairston Rhynehardt, 54, died in the early morning of Dec. 12, 2008 at her home in Mocksville.
She was the daughter of the late Albert and Catherine Brock Hairston, born on July 13, 1954. She attended Sto Rox High School in Pittsburgh, Pa. and graduated in June 1972. On May 26, 1989, she was joined in marriage to James Harrell Rhynehardt. She was a loving, wonderful and supporting wife.
Survivors: her husband of the home; a special niece who was reared in the home, Natisha McKoy (Booter); 3 special great-nephews, Dwayne McIntire (Stink), David McKoy (Squirt), and Devin McKoy (Scoop); a sister, Flora Hairston (Toots); a brother, Albert Hairston (Brother); 2 stepsons, Earl Rhynehardt and Stanley Rhynehardt; father and mother-in-law, Thomas and Millie Rhynehardt; sister-in-law, Martha March (Robert); 3 aunts, Mary Florence Hairston, Rosa Lee (Jimmy) Arnold, and Lula Lane; 2 uncles, William (Ruth) Brock and Bishop James (Josephine) Ijames; 2 special friends, Tresa Campbell and Devon Williams; and a host of other relatives, cousins, and friends.
Her funeral service was held Tuesday, Dec. 16 at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Graham Funeral Home. Pastor Nettye I. Barber officiated and burial followed in Cedar Creek Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery. The family received friends 30 minutes before the service.

Birlie Louise White
Birlie Louise White, 83, died on Dec. 13, 2008, in Genesis Elder Care in Salisbury following a short illness.
She was born Sept. 12, 1925 in Davie County, daughter of the late Jim and Bessie Hunter Ijames. She attended Davie County Schools and early in life she joined Liberty AME Zion Church. For the past three years she was a member of Refuge Community Church in Cooleemee. She was married to Willie James White Jr., and to this union three children were born. She loved to make sweet potato pies for friends, and retired from Drexel Heritage Furniture. Following her retirement she worked in housekeeping at Davie County Hospital.
Her husband preceded her in death in January, 2000.
Survivors: 3 daughters, Bessie (Hubert) Boyd of Blackridge, Va., Doris Patterson of Hamlet, and Nancy (Stanley) Campbell of Cooleemee; 10 grandchildren, including a grandson who was raised in the home, John (Lorraine) Turner of Jamaica, N.Y.; 29 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; a devoted friend, William Luckey; other relatives and friends.
Her funeral service was held Wednesday, Dec. 17 at 1:30 p.m. in the chapel of Graham Funeral Home. The Rev. Rodney Barker officiated and burial followed in Rowan Memorial Park in Salisbury. The family received friends 30 minutes before the service.

Vivian Pack Barnes
Mrs. Vivian Irene Pack Barnes, 86, of Merrells Lake Road, Mocksville, died Saturday, Dec. 13, 2008, at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem.
She was born April 14, 1922, in Davie County to the late Gurney Ray and Pearl Lanier Pack. Mrs. Barnes was retired from Hanes Knitting in Winston-Salem and was a lifelong member of Fulton United Methodist Church in Advance. She was a member of the Fork Fifties Plus. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, traveling, fishing and spending time with her family.
Mrs. Barnes was preceded in death by her husband, Homer Sanford Barnes in 1978; a son, James Homer “Jimmy” Barnes; 2 sisters, Veta Ray Shoaf and Tempy Jane Pack; and 2 brothers, Boyd and Garland Pack.
Survivors: a daughter, Sandra Phelps of Mocksville; 4 granddaughters, Jan (Jeff) Sanders, Stephanie (J.C.) Hendrix, Susan (Mitchell) Green and Joni (Cain Baker) Graley; 9 great-grandchildren, Colby and Ridge Sanders, Morgan and Cody Hendrix, Carley and Jessup Green, Sidney and Kyleigh Graley and Kennedy Baker; a special friend and sister, Iona Stewart of Mocksville; a sister-in-law, Janell Pack of Advance; a daughter-in-law, Ann Barnes of Mocksville; her best friend of 77 years, Rosemary Gross of Fort Smith, Ark. and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service was conducted at 3 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 16, at Fulton United Methodist Church with the Rev. Kirk Tutterow officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery. The family received friends from 2-3 p.m. at the church.

Mary Selene Wilson
Mary Selene Wilson, 76, died on Dec. 11, 2008 in Davis Regional Hospital after an extended illness.
She was born April 28, 1932, to the late Andrew Lee and Dora Turner Wilson, one of 12 children. She was educated in Davie County School System, and joined Piney Grove AME Zion Church at an early age where she remained a member for more than 70 years. She was fondly called the mother of the church. She was a hard worker, doing numerous jobs, lastly a certified nursing assistant until her retirement in 1998. Nicknamed Mess Selene or Mess for short, she was a straight up, generous, loving person who would help anyone in need. You could always depend on her. She married Benjamin F. Wilson, who preceded her in death. Their union produced 9 children, of which 3 are deceased; Mary K Wilson, Jonathan L. Wilson and Willie Lee Fowler. Also preceding her in death were 2 grandchildren, Jonathan and Roland Fowler.
Survivors: 3 sons, Ronald E. Wilson of Statesville, Terrence F. Wilson of Mocksville, and Bryant A. (Johnsie) Wilson of Cooleemee; a stepson, David Peck of Statesville; 3 daughters, Dora W. Hearn of Charlotte, Audrey M. Wilson of Statesville, and Amelia F. Frost of the home; 11 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Ceola Wilson and Octavia Clement, both of Mocksville; 3 sisters-in-law; 3 brothers-in-law; a God-sister, Verna Allen of Baltimore, Md.; special friends, Jessie Ann Gaither and Luke Nichols, both of Harmony; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Funeral service was held Monday, Dec. 15 at 3 p.m. at Piney Grove AME Zion Church in Harmony. The Rev. David Hoover, pastor, officiated and burial followed in the church cemetery. The family received friends one hour before the service.

Joseph D. Clark
Joseph D. “Joe” Clark, 71, died Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2008 at his residence in Mocksville.
He was born June 2, 1937 in Anson County, son of the late Clarence and Geneva Clark. He grew up in Anson County, and moved with his family to Davie County where he attended Davie County Schools. For a short time he worked at The Transfer Shed in Spencer. On Jan. 1, 1956 he began employment with the Town of Mocksville, Public Works Dept./Utility Maintenance and retired after 50 years on Feb. 20, 2006. Early in life he professed Christianity in the Baptist faith, and for the past 16 years he was a member of the Rose of Sharon Holiness Church in Salisbury, where he served as a trustee. His hobby was gardening and serving as a handy man. He was married to Lurline Wilds for more than 30 years.
He was also preceded in death by a son, Rudolph Wilds; and a brother, Herbert Clark Sr.
Survivors: his wife, Lurline W. Clark of the home; 5 daughters, JoAnn Clark of Salisbury, Tina Clark, Hilda Clark (James) Bell, Queen (Louis) Overton, and Minister Willette Collins, all of Mocksville; 2 sons, Willie Wilds of Darlington, S.C., and Willie Collins Jr. of Salisbury; 2 sisters, Bertha (Reynolds) Duncan of Advance and Rether (Lyman) Parker of New York, N.Y.; 5 brothers, Elbert (Paulette) Clark and Frank Clark, both of Mocksville, Clarence (Sadie) Clark Jr. of Advance, Preston (Betty) Clark of Salisbury, and Charlie (Corrie) Clark of Mt. Vernon, N.Y.; a number of sisters-in-law, aunts, uncles, other relatives and friends.
His funeral service was held Saturday, Dec. 13 at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Graham Funeral Home. The Rev. Charles L. Booker officiated and Minister Henrietta Flowers provided the eulogy. Burial followed in Rowan Memorial Park. The family received friends one hour before the service.
