Edith Boyd Church
Edith Boyd Church, 86, of Wall Street, Cooleemee, died on Saturday, Nov. 29, 2008, at Rowan Regional Medical Center.
Born in Tazewell County, Va., on April 1, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Cosby Dill Boyd. She was a homemaker and a member of Community Baptist Church. On April 28, 1938, she married the Rev. Tommy Church who preceded her in death on Dec. 19, 2007.
Survivors: 9 sons, Ronnie Church, David Church, Donald Church, Danny Church, and the Rev. Jimmy Church, all of Cooleemee, Roger Church of Spencer, Billy Church of Cleveland, NC, Junior Church of Holden Beach, and Gary Church of Salisbury; a daughter Delois Cranfield of Woodleaf; a stepdaughter, Lassie Ratliff of Grundy, Va.; 47 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren, 17 great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Church was also preceded in death by 2 sons, Kelly and Palmer Church; a daughter, Linda Church Willard; 3 brothers and 3 sisters.
The service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Church was held on Wednesday, Dec. 3, at 11 a.m. at Victory Baptist Church with the Rev. Jimmy Church officiating. Burial was in Legion Memorial Park. The family received friends on Dec. 2 at Davie Funeral Service.

Paul Giles Barney Sr.
Mr. Paul Giles Barney Sr., 79, of Advance died Sunday, Nov. 30, 2008 at Forsyth Medical Center.
He was born April 14, 1929 in Davie County to Wiley Seaborn and Paulina Shermer Barney. In his early life, he loved to hunt and took pride in his bird dogs. He attended Advance United Methodist Church and was proud of his family. His special days were working for Dixie Furniture and hauling several Advance women to work. After retirement he provided produce for his family and locals from his little honor system produce stand.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Paul Giles Barney Jr.
Surviving: his wife, Betty Wall Barney; a daughter, Brenda Seaford and husband Tony; a son, Randy Lee Barney; stepdaughter, Debbie Hege and husband Steve; 2 grandsons, Jeff Allen and wife Tara and Chris Barney and wife Jessica; a great-grandson, Dean Allen; and a daughter-in-law, Gale Williard.
A funeral service was held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 3 at Advance United Methodist Church with the Rev. Cheryl Skinner officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery. The family received friends Tuesday at Hayworth-Miller Kinderton Chapel.

Barney Lee Dalton
Mr. Barney Lee Dalton, 97, died on Tuesday, Nov. 18, 2008, at Iredell Memorial Hospital.
He was born Dec. 24, 1910, son of the late Millard and Lessie Spann Dalton. On Oct. 29, 1932, he was united in marriage to the late Effie Mae Dalton, who preceded him in death on Jan. 27, 1994. He was also preceded in death by 2 grandsons, a granddaughter, a great-granddaughter, 6 brothers, 4 sisters, a daughter-in-law, Doretha Dalton, and 2 sons-in-law, John Kelly Morrison, and William Ray Clement. Mr. Dalton loved his career in farming and was successful. He was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church where he served faithfully and was a member of the Deacon Board.
Survivors: 6 sons, Lonnie P. (Maxine) Steele of Baltimore, Md., Robert Lee Dalton and Jimmy L. (Audrey) Dalton, both of Hamptonville, Johnny Gus (Estella) Dalton of Harmony, Renard (Dianne) Dalton and William Lynn (Brenda) Dalton both of Statesville; 7 daughters, Dorothy D. Lackey, Sallie D. Morrison, both of Statesville, Martha D. Clement, Judy D. Williamson, and Abby (David) Redman, all of Mocksville, Marcella (William) James of Olin, Mary D. (the Rev. Ray) Campbell of Greensboro; a sister, Inez Reid of Statesville; 30 grandchildren; 48 great-grandchildren; 9 great-great-grandchildren; 5 sisters-in-law, Ruth S. Dalton of Advance, Lila Dalton of Statesville, Julia Dalton of Yadkinville, Edythe Polly Campbell of Raleigh, and Elouise Dowell of Wilkesboro; a brother-in-law, Ralph Dalton Sr. of Hamptonville; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Funeral service was held Friday, Nov. 21 at 1:30 p.m. at Mt. Nebo Baptist Church in Harmony. The Revs. Norman Dudley and Lawrence Norris officiated and burial followed in Hamptonville at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery. The family received friends one hour before the service.

Wayne Boger
Mr. Wayne Boger, 57, of Mocksville, died Monday, Dec. 1, 2008 at Forsyth Medical Center.
He was born April 10, 1951 in Iredell County to Marshall Howard and Elizabeth Ward Boger. Mr. Boger was of the Baptist faith. He was a member and past president of the Farmington Masons and a hunter.
He is preceded in death by his father, Howard Boger and a brother, John Charles Boger.
Surviving: his wife of 35 years, Pamela Cheek Boger; a son, John Boger and wife Whitney Rockett Boger; a daughter, Angela Boger Worley and husband Todd of Asheboro; his mother, Elizabeth Boger; 3 grandchildren, Kayla and Colton Dalton and Blake Worley, and one on the way, Mason Rylan Boger.
A graveside service was held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Eatons Baptist Church with the Rev. David Gilbreath officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery. The family received friends Dec. 2 at Hayworth-Miller Kinderton Chapel.

Joe Preston Tucker
Mr. Joe Preston Tucker, 60, of NC 801 South, Advance, died Thursday, Nov. 27, 2008, at Rowan Regional Medical Center in Salisbury.
He was born Feb. 6, 1948 in Forsyth County to the late Frank Preston “Son” Tucker and Mattie Ruth Bailey Tucker of Advance. He served in the US Navy during the Vietnam War. He was a member of the Advance Masonic Lodge. He spent his life as a farmer and loved being outside. He devoted time to the Davie County Horse Rescue. He had a passion for horses all his life.
He was also preceded in death by a granddaughter, Shelby Leigh McKnight.
Survivors: his mother of Advance; 2 daughters, Sunni Leigh McKnight (Michael Ball) and Amanda Steelman (Matthew) and their mother, Sue Tucker, all of Advance; 5 grandchildren, Haley, Kasey and Matty McKnight and Korri and Mallory Steelman; and a sister, Connie Brinkley (Larry) of Advance.
A memorial service was held on Monday, Dec. 1, at his residence on NC 801 S., Advance.

Richard Lee Carter Sr.
Mr. Richard Lee Carter Sr., 75, of Ivy Lane, Mocksville, died Saturday, Nov. 29, 2008, at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem.
He was born June 14, 1933, in Davie County to the late Clarence Smith Carter Sr. and Lula Gladys Gregory Carter. Mr. Carter was an entrepreneur and an innovator in the contract office furniture industry. He developed several skills in drafting and interior design while working at RJR Tobacco in the engineering department. While at RJR, he worked on the design of the Whitaker Park Tobacco Factory and Baptist Hospital. He became a business partner of Watkins Office Interiors in the early 1970s and spent the majority of his career working on furniture projects for businesses in the Triad. Mr. Carter finished his career as the top salesman for Alfred Williams Co. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Mr. Carter was a member of Union Chapel United Methodist Church where he had been a Sunday school teacher, sang in the choir, was on the board of trustees and served on other committees. He was a graduate of Farmington High School Class of 1951 and was member of the Future Farmers of America (FFA), the Beta Club, played baseball and was a member of the FFA school band. While he was a member of the FFA Band, he appeared in radio and TV. The band won numerous state contests and fiddlers conventions. The group recorded several records during the early 1950s, before disbanding due to the Korean War. He enjoyed gardening, playing the guitar, architectural drafting, flying, camping, traveling, fishing and reading.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Frances Maxine Langston Carter in 2003; and a brother, Clarence “Tom” Carter Jr.
Surviving: a son, the Rev. Richard “Rick” Lee Carter Jr. and wife, Lynn Makepeace of Kernersville; a brother, Jimmy “Jim” Carter of Mocksville; 3 sisters, Lassie “Squeaky” Carter Myers and Mary “Polly” Carter Thompson, both of Mocksville and Betty “Tooter” (Don) Stroud of Yadkinville; 2 granddaughters, Margaux Claire Makepeace Carter and Caroline Grace Makepeace Carter; several nieces and nephews; and his fiance, Edna Henderson of Union Grove.
A funeral service was conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Union Chapel United Methodist Church with the Revs. Jason Constantine and James “Chip” Webb officiating. The body was placed in the church one hour before the service. Burial was in the church cemetery. The family received friends Dec. 2, at Eaton Funeral Home.

Nelson R. Hutchens
Nelson Roosevelt Hutchens, 72, of Jack Booe Road, Mocksville, died on Sunday, Nov. 23, 2008.
Born in Yadkin County on Dec. 12, 1935, he was the son of the late Early and Amy Logan Hutchens. Mr. Hutchens was a cabinet maker for Dixie Furniture in Lexington. He was of the Quaker faith and a member of Old Siloam Friends Church. Mr. Hutchens served in the Army during the Korean conflict. He was a member of the VFW post 10346 in Yadkinville and was a past commander. Mr. Hutchens volunteered at the VA Hospital in Salisbury with more than 750 hours serving his fellow vets.
Survivors: his wife of 54 years, Kathleen Hayes Hutchens; 2 sons, Nelson Wayne (Margaret) Hutchens of Mocksville, Nelson Eugene Hutchens of Yadkinville, 4 daughters, Kathy H. (James) Scarlette of Lexington, Anita D. (Greg) Sanford of Mooresville, Becky H. Ridenhour of Boonville, Vickie (Jody) Gammons of Mocksville; 1 brother, Wade (Roberta) Hutchens of Mocksville, 3 sisters, Freddie (Homer) Nichols of Mocksville, Ruby (Junior) Sharpe of Harmony, Hazel Driver of Mocksville; 14 grandchildren; 2 step-grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; 2 step-great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by 3 brothers and 3 sisters.
The service to celebrate Mr. Hutchens’ life was on Wednesday, Nov. 26, at 2 p.m. at Mackie-Sinclair Funeral Service with the Revs. Clyde Akers Timothy Sink officiating. Burial followed in the Old Siloam Friends cemetery with full military honors accorded by VFW Post 10346 Honor Guard. The family received friends Nov. 25 at the funeral home.

Bobby Eugene Trexler
Mr. Bobby Eugene Trexler, 81, of Turrentine Church Road, Mocksville, died Friday, Nov. 28, 2008, at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem.
He was born in Davidson County on Jan. 21, 1927, to the late William Wakefield and Mary Susan Wilson Trexler. Mr. Trexler was retired from the US Marine Corps after 21 years, having served during the Korean Conflict, and was retired from Wake Forest University as a maintenance technician after 22 years. He enjoyed camping and traveling and was a bowler. He took care of his family and loved his dogs Missy and Little Bit.
He was also preceded in death by a son, Robert Eugene Trexler; 3 sisters, Sadie Tutterow, Margaret Brewer and Juanita Buchta; and a brother, Elmer Trexler.
Survivors: his wife of 54 years, Evelyn Frye Trexler of the home; a daughter, Renee Trexler Aldridge of Salisbury; 2 sons, Ira Wakefield Trexler (Katherine) of Rockwell and Stacey Lynn Trexler (Melaine) of Salisbury; 4 grandchildren, Jason Trexler, Amanda Aldridge, Kristina Trexler and Matthew Trexler; 2 sisters, Mary Gray and Delores Younts (Zan), all of Lexington; a daughter in law, Debbie Hatley Trexler of Kannapolis; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service was conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 2 at Eaton Funeral Chapel with Chaplain Fred Moretz officiating. Burial was in Salisbury National Cemetery with full military honors conducted by the US Marine Corps. The family received friends Monday, Dec. 1 at the funeral home.

Rebecca Bernice Hinkle
Rebecca Bernice Hinkle, 86, of Riverview Road, Mocksville, died on Saturday, Nov. 29, 2008, at Iredell Memorial Hospital in Statesville.
Born in Davie County on March 14, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Tony Jackson Jack and Minnie Hamilton Seaford. She was retired from Dixie Furniture Factory, was a member of Fork Baptist Church and the Fork Senior Citizens Group.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Vernon Hinkle, in 2002; and by a son and a daughter; 5 sisters, Pauline Livengood, Laverne Gaither, Venice Livengood, Jeanette Beane and Maxine Correll; and 3 brothers, Lee, Dwight and Reginald Seaford.
Survivors: a son, Charles Adison Wood of Advance; a brother, William Bill Seaford and wife Peggy of Advance; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Lillie Jeanette Allen
Mrs. Lillie Jeanette Holleman Allen, 78, of Howardtown Circle, Mocksville, died Saturday, Nov. 29, 2008, at Davie County Hospital.
She was born March 17, 1930 in Yadkin County to the late Asa Roosevelt and Lora Jane Finney Holleman. She was of the Pentecostal Holiness faith.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Garland Hubert Allen in February of 1998; and a grandson, Bradley Joe Allen.

David Lee Caudle
Mr. David Lee Caudle, 57, of Mocksville, died Monday, Nov. 24, 2008 at his home.
He was born Nov. 25, 1950 in Yadkin County to the late Ernest and Roxie Driver Caudle.
He was also preceded in death by a sister, Patsy Gregory; brothers, Odell Caudle, Ray Caudle.

Michelle Kay McBride
Michelle Kay McBride, 33, of Gwyn Street, Mocksville, died on Monday, Dec. 1, 2008, at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home.
Born in Davie County on May 28, 1975, she was the daughter of the late Charlie McBride and Sandra Walker of Myrtle Beach, S.C.
In addition to her mother, Michelle is survived by: a son, Charlie Dillon Smith, and a daughter, Kayla Danielle Smith, both of Statesville; her grandfather, C.W. “Bill” Walker of Mocksville; a half-brother, John Cord Sanford IV of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; an aunt, Sherry Plott of Mocksville; great aunts, Lucille Daniels and Betty Daniels; an uncle, C.W. “Chuck” Walker Jr.; great uncles, Bailey Walker, Kenny Walker and Pete Walker.
She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Karli Delain Smith, and a half-sister, Kaitlin Sanford.
A service to celebrate her life will be held on Thursday, Dec. 4, at 7 p.m. in the Davie Funeral Service Chapel with the Revs. Shane Young and Darren Alexander officiating. The family will speak with friends following the memorial service.
