- Ruth Bohannon Sullivan
Ruth Bohannon Sullivan, 85, died on Thursday, Nov. 13, 2008 at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem.
She was born on Dec. 24, 1922 in Davie County to the late Rachel Bohannon. She was a member of Tabernacle United Church of Christ. Before her decline in health, she attended church faithfully.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Devore Sullivan Sr., 2 sons Devore Sullivan Jr. and Richard Sullivan.
Survivors: 3 daughters, Geneva Sullivan Spease, Dorothy (Frederick) Gaither both of Mocksville, NC, Kathy (Ernest) Transou of Yadkinville, NC and one son, Marvin Sullivan of Cooleemee, NC and one daughter-in-law, Nora Sullivan. She also leaves to cherish her memory 20 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends. Funeral service was held Tuesday, Nov. 18 at Tabernacle United Church of Christ in Yadkin County. Rev. Marvin Harper officiated and burial followed in Bethany A.M.E. Zion Church Cemetery. Patrick Troxal
Patrick Troxal, 62, of Stage Coach Road, Mocksville, died on Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2008, at his residence.
Born in Marion County, Ind. on Feb. 28, 1946, he was the son of the late Robert Wesley Troxal Sr. and Flossie Soard Troxal. He was a self-employed welder and attended Faith Hope Baptist Church.
Survivors: his wife, Ruth Ann Brooks Troxal; 2 sons, James Patrick (Rebecca Sue) Troxal of French Lick, Ind. and Matthew Joseph (Roberta Jo) Troxal of Philippi, W.Va.; a daughter, Kimberly Yvonne (Kevin) Mattingly of Huntersville; a brother, Fred Allen (Peggy) Troxal of Martinsville, Ind.; 3 sisters, Judy Fern (Rufford) Gadd of Martinsville, Daisy May Yates of Rossville, Fla. and Peggy Ann Lusc of Tucson, Ariz.; and 6 grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by 4 brothers and a sister.
A memorial service will be held at a later date in Indiana.

Gene Brackens Jr.
Mr. Gene Brackens Jr., 77, of Salisbury, died Thursday, Nov. 13, 2008, at his home.
Born July 16, 1931 in Rowan County, he was the son of the late Eugene Brackens Sr. and Letha Loflin Brackens. He attended Woodleaf Schools and retired from the City of Salisbury as a truck driver.
Survivors: his wife, Dottie Hellard Brackens of the home; 2 daughters, Deborah Melton and husband Todd of Albemarle, and Pam Kistler and husband John of Salisbury; 2 grandchildren, Rusty Melton and wife Mandy, and Felicia Amick and husband Matt; and 2 great-grandchildren, Nic Melton and Abigail Grace Amick.
The family received friends on Saturday, Nov. 15 from 1-2 p.m. at Summersett Funeral Home. The funeral service was held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Summersett Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Benny Hillard officiating. Entombment followed at Rowan Memorial Park Mausoleum.

Ruth Hendricks Collette
Ruth Hendricks Collette, 92, of Salisbury Street and Somerset Court, Mocksville, died on Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2008, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem.
Born in Davie County on April 21, 1916, she was the daughter of the late Grover and Beulah Merrill Hendricks. Mrs. Collette and her husband Roy operated Wilkins Drug Store on Town Square from 1948-1986. She was a member of Mocksville First Baptist Church, the Rotary Club Womens Auxiliary and the Wally Bynum Caravan Club.
Her husband, Roy Wilson Collette, preceded her in death in May of 1992.
Survivors: 4 grandchildren, Roy Wilson Collette III and wife Jo Anna of Kernersville, Perry Collette and wife Kelly of Chapel Hill, Jan Collette O’Neal and husband Bradley of Mocksville, and Anna Barton Hart and husband Joseph of Clemmons; a daughter-in-law, Judy Collette of Mocksville; a son-in-law, Ronald Barton of Pfafftown; a brother-in-law, Graham Madison of Winston-Salem; a sister-in-law, Helen Hendricks of Kings Mountain; 8 great-grandchildren, Alex, Ryan and Peyton Collette, Bill and Carly Collette, Luke and Kirsten Hatley and Ashley Hart and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Collette was also preceded in death by a son, Roy W. “Bill” Collette Jr., a daughter, Martha Susan Collette Barton; 2 brothers, Dr. Paul Hendricks and Gray Red Hendricks, and a sister, Gertrude Madison.
The service to celebrate Mrs. Collette’s life was held on Sunday, Nov. 16, at 3 p.m. at Mocksville First Baptist Church with Dr. Van Lankford officiating. Burial was in Rose Cemetery. The family received friends on Saturday, Nov. 15 at Davie Funeral Service.

Areta Geter Allen
Areta “Pete” Geter Allen, 67, died Nov. 13 in Carolina Medical Center in Charlotte.
Survivors: 2 sons, Charles Lawrence Geter and Leroy Geter, both of Salisbury; 4 daughters, Loretta (Robert) Jones of Cleveland, Dianne McConnaughey Moore and fiance Richard Threatt of Charlotte, Janice McConnaughey Brown of Salisbury, and Wanda Denise Geter of Woodleaf; 3 brothers, Albert (Mary N.) Geter, Nathanial (Shirley) Geter, both of Woodleaf and Willie S.T. (Maxine) Geter of Salisbury; a sister, Essie Ruth (Rev. Hallie) Leach of Iselin, N.J.; 3 sisters-in-law, the Rev. Brenda Geter, Penny Geter, and Lucille Geter; 15 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren.
Her funeral was Monday, Nov. 17 at noon at New Jerusalem Holiness Church in Cleveland. Bishop Willie Joe Gray officiated and burial followed in the church cemetery.

Doris Pauline Bradshaw
Mrs. Doris Pauline Bradshaw, 70 of Advance died Saturday, Nov. 15, 2008 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home.
Mrs. Bradshaw was born Sept. 20, 1938 in Madison County to the late Marion and Mary Atlas Robinson. She was a member of Mocks United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Bradshaw was also preceded in death by a brother, Harold Robinson.
Surviving: her husband, Wayne Bradshaw of the home; a son, Duane Floyd Bradshaw of King; a granddaughter, Nicole Casey of Advance; 3 sisters, Bertha Wilkie, Lois Weich, Joyce Soesbee; 3 brothers, Dolph Robinson, Ray Robinson and Dewey Robinson.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 23 at Mocks United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jonathan Brake officiating. Mrs. Bradshaw will lie in state from 2:30-3 p.m. A graveside service will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends following the service in the fellowship hall.

James Martin Summers
Mr. James Martin Summers, 80, of Oak Grove Church Road, Mocksville, died Thursday, Nov. 13, 2008, at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem.
He was born May 7, 1928, in Davie County to the late William Lawrence and Sallie McClamrock Summers. Mr. Summers was an active member of Oak Grove United Methodist Church where he had been a member of the United Methodist Men, Sunday school superintendent and song leader. He retired with more than 40 years at Burlington Industries. Mr. Summers was also a member of the National Guard.
Survivors: his wife of 60 years, Bonnie McDaniel Summers; a son, Terry Martin (Sharon) Summers of Westerville, Ohio; a granddaughter, Jodi (Chad) Welch of Hickory; a grandson, Chad Summers of Roanoke, Va.; and a brother, William (Margaret) Summers of Mocksville.
A funeral service was conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 16, at Oak Grove United Methodist Church with the Revs. Larry Thompson and Charles Stewart officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery. The family received friends Saturday, Nov. 15, at Eaton Funeral Home.

Judy Lynn Taylor
Judy Lynn Taylor, 58, of Station Road, Mocksville, died on Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2008, at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center.
Born in Squire, W.Va. on April 7, 1950, she was the daughter of the late Ross Leonard and Virginia Helen Hess Compton. She was employed in antique sales and was of the Pentecostal Holiness faith.
Survivors: a daughter, Misty Lynn (fiance Aaron F. Wells) of Princeton, W.Va.; 3 brothers, Jerry D. (Sandra) Compton of Mocksville, Johnny L. (Rita) Compton of Bluewell, W.Va. and Jackie D. (Drema) Compton of Princeton; a sister, Cyndi A. (Glen) Shrewsbury of Mocksville; 6 grandchildren, Dakota Keech Taylor, Courtney Paige Wells, Shane Hunter Taylor-Smith, Lendzey Danielle Taylor, Gracie Savannah Taylor and Destiny Sailynn Taylor; a daughter-in-law, Trina R. Taylor; a life-long friend, Billy D. Skeens; and several nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by a son, Leonard D. Lenny Taylor
A graveside service to celebrate her life was held on Friday, Nov. 14 at 3 p.m. at Roselawn Memorial Garden. The family received friends on Friday at Memorial Funeral Chapel in Princeton. The family received friends on Thursday, Nov. 13 at Davie Funeral Service in Mocksville.

George Allen Mebane IV
George Allen Mebane IV, 79, of Mocksville died Nov.14, 2008 after an extended illness.
Survivors: his wife of 21 years, Marianne; sons and daughters-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. George Allen Mebane V of Shelby, Mr. and Mrs. William Michael Mebane of Winston-Salem; his daughter, Lucy Mebane Webster of Fletcher; his brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas A. Mebane of Greensboro; 8 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; and a host of relatives, friends and business associates.
Mr. Mebane was born Sept. 28, 1929 in Greensboro. He excelled in leadership and sports at Christ School in Arden, where he graduated in 1948. After attending Davidson College and Philadelphia University, he served in the U.S. Army for two years. Early in his career he worked in sales in the textile industry and became familiar with all aspects of the business. At the age of 35, he assumed his first executive position as president and CEO of Throwing Corporation of America. In l967 he founded, with two others, Universal Textured Yarns where he was president and CEO. Four years later, the company was sold and he and others started Unifi, Inc. Over the next 30 years, the company grew to sales in excess of $1.5 billion, becoming the largest producer and processor of textured yarns in the world with plants in the United States, England, Brazil, and Ireland. In 2000, Mr. Mebane retired from Unifi and directed his efforts toward the Mebane Charitable Foundation, with a significant focus on education in public schools. The foundation has been responsible for providing technology and educational programs to thousands of children in Davie County. He was a member of the Board of Visitors of Columbia University Medical Center of New York, a former member of the Advisory Board of Duke Eye Center in Durham, and trustee emeritus of Christ School. He was a founding member of the Country Club of North Carolina, Pinehurst, and a member of Old Town Club, Winston-Salem, and Wade Hampton Club, Cashiers. Mr. Mebane possessed an ever-curious and forward-thinking mind; a relentless seeker of information. He pursued his passions for golf, art, hunting, and friends.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, Nov. 22, at 11 a.m. at his home.
