- Sirena Gale Hicks
Sirena Gale Hicks, 29, of Tittle Lane, Mocksville, died on Friday, Feb. 27, 2009.
She was born in Burke County on Feb. 28, 1979. She had worked at Deans Mini Market and was of the Holiness faith.
Survivors: her mother and stepfather, Elaine and Charlie Tittle of Mocksville; her father and stepmother, Samuel and Alice Hicks of Lenoir; a son, Ethan Harding Groce of the home; her finance, Brent Lee Groce of Mocksville; a half-brother, Robby Hicks of Morganton; a stepbrother, Wayne Tittle of Mocksville; and a stepsister, Charlene Crotts of Advance.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Sammy Hicks.
The service to celebrate her life was held on Tuesday, March 3, at 8 p.m. in the Davie Funeral Service Chapel with the Revs. Curtis Wood and Jerry Lynde officiating. The family receive friends on Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial was on Wednesday, March 4, at 1 p.m. in the Blue Ridge Memorial Park in Lenoir.

Mozella Howell Dobson
Mozella “Mo” Howell Dobson, 61, of Yadkinville, died Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2009 at Forsyth Medical Center.
She was born April 19, 1947 to the late Harding and Cornelius Carson Howell. She was a member of Cedar Creek Missionary Baptist Church.
She was also preceded in death by a sister, Sarah Williams.
Surviving: her husband of 42 years, Paul R. Dobson of the home; a daughter, Paula Dobson (Danny) Waugh, Evans Ga.; a son, Kevin (Tameka) Dobson, Augusta Ga.; 7 grandchildren, Allison Dobson, Anjelica Dobson, Derrick Dobson, Dominique Dobson, Daniel Waugh, Jayla Waugh, Ricky Blue; 2 sisters, Addie (Norman) Gillispie, Ruby Howell; a goddaughter, Tina Redmon; a godson, Jamil Jeffries; several nieces and nephews.
Her funeral was conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 28 at Cedar Creek Missionary Baptist Church by the Rev. C.A. Stewart. Burial followed in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday, Feb. 27 at Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville.

Mary Elizabeth Wagner
Mary Elizabeth Wagner, 87, of Advance, died Monday, March 2, 2009.
Mrs. Wagner was born Nov. 9, 1921 in Yancey County and was a resident of the Swannanoa Valley for most of her life. She was a member of Swannanoa Church of God before moving to Advance where she was a member of Mocksville Church of God. Mrs. Wagner was employed with Kearfott Guidance and Navigation Corp.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Oscar Thomas and Pansy Silver Gibbs; husband, George Wagner; infant daughter, Mary Dianne Wagner and great-grandson, Michael Kerley.
Survivors: her son, Thomas Wagner of Advance; sister, Sarah Jones of Fremont, Mich.; brother, Tom Gibbs of Easley, S.C.; grandchildren, Mary Wagner, Dianne Harrill, Tommi Boger and Zach Wagner; and 5 great-grandchildren.
A celebration of life was held Wednesday, March 4, at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Harwood Home for Funerals, Black Mountain with the Rev. Ron Owensby officiating. Burial was in Mountain View Memorial Park. The family received friends prior to the service at the funeral home.

Helen Charles Carter
Mrs. Helen Charles Carter, 95, of Frank Short Road, Mocksville, died Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2009, at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem.
She was born May 2, 1913, in Davie County to the late John C. and Sallie Crump Charles. Mrs. Carter was a homemaker and a member of Turrentine Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her childhood sweetheart and husband of 54 years, James Hubert Carter Sr. on April 2, 1986; 5 sisters; and a brother.
Survivors: a daughter, Ann Carter (Dennis) Dyson of Mocksville; a son, James “Jimmy” H. (Barbara Gregory) Carter Jr. of Mocksville; 5 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; and 5 great-great-grandchildren.
A funeral service was conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 28, at Turrentine Baptist Church with the Revs. Billy Sloop and Fred Carlton officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery. The family received friends at the church one hour before the service.

Ralph H. Loudermilk
Ralph Halbert Loudermilk, 79, of 970 Ridge Road, Mocksville, died Monday, March 2, 2009, at his residence.
He was born on Oct. 14, 1929, in Alexander County and was the son of the late Daniel A. and Alice Leola Neagle Loudermilk. He was a U.S. Army veteran and worked with Taylorsville Auto Parts after his military service. He retired from Alexvale Furniture in Taylors-ville in 1996. He loved his 1930 Model A Ford and driving along the Blue Ridge Parkway, and bluegrass music.
He was also preceded in death by a son-in-law, Bill Fox; and 4 sisters, Lois Harrington, Lottie Goforth, Edna Chapman, and Thomasene Tommy Goforth.
Survivors: 2 daughters, Kathy Barr (Billy) of Taylorsville and Lorie Hedrick (Darren) of Claremont; a son, Jeff Loudermilk of Taylorsville; his fiance, friend and caregiver, Joann Williams of the home; a sister, Ozabell McCurdy; 2 brothers, Talmadge Loudermilk (Ann) and Dee Loudermilk (Mae), all of Taylorsville; 5 grandchildren; 6 step-grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; and 6 step-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were to be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 5, in the Westmoreland Chapel of Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home with the Rev. Danny Loudermilk officiating. Burial was to follow at Society Baptist Church Cemetery. The family was to receive friends from 7-9 Wednesday evening at the funeral home and at other times will assemble at the residence.

Alyssa Fowler
Alyssa Faith Fowler died on Thursday, Feb. 26, 2009, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center.
The funeral was at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 1, 2009, at Davidson Funeral Home Chapel in Lexington, with Pastor Jerry Couch officiating. Entombment followed in Forest Hill Memorial Park.
Alyssa was born Nov. 21, 2001, in Davidson County, to Frankie Robertson “Robbie” Fowler Jr. and Patricia “Patty” Ann Gallaher. She attended Believers Sonship Tabernacle in Mocksville and Churchland Elementary School where she had many friends.
Surviving in addition to her parents: a sister, Ariana Brook Fowler of the home; a special sister, Megan Carlson of Lexington; grandparents, Richard Thomas Gallaher and wife Margie Carol of Lexington, and Frankie Fowler Sr. and wife Christine of Mocksville; aunts, Joy Johnson and husband Mark, Sharon Reynolds and husband Paul, Elizabeth Thompson and husband Terry, all of Lexington, Jeannie Swicegood, Mary Ann Finney, both of Linwood, Sandra Leonard and husband Mike of Ramseur, Vicky Morris and husband Wayne of Tennessee, and Melissa Swicegood of High Point; and cousins, Robby Motsinger, Corey Robinette, Joseph Finney, Hannah Gough, Megan Gough Melissa Reynolds, Emily Leonard, Bryson Lee Thompson, Susan Loveless, and Austin Morris.

Mason Bryant Owens
Mr. Mason Bryant Owens, 74, of Pine Ridge Road, Mocksville, died Wednesday, Feb. 25, 2009, at Rowan Regional Medical Center in Salisbury.
He was born March 21, 1934, in Davie County, to the late Ralph Theodore and Leola Mae Campbell Owens. Mr. Owens was a graduate of Cooleemee High School. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Owens was retired from Hanes Narrow Fabrics in Advance. He enjoyed camping at Thousand Trails and going to the beach.
Survivors: his wife of 50 years, Florence Shore Owens of the home; a son, Edwin Owens of Cooleemee; an aunt, Peggy (Bob) Corbett of Raleigh; and numerous friends.
A funeral service was conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 28, at Eaton Funeral Chapel, with Rev. Virgil Hutcherson officiating. Burial followed in Legion Memorial Park in Cooleemee. The family received friends Friday, Feb. 27, at Eaton Funeral Home.

Alberta Foster
Alberta Foster, 96, died Friday, Feb. 27, 2009 in Long Island, N.Y.
She was born and raised in Davie County, and was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church. As an adult, she moved to New York.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Roosevelt Foster.
Local survivors: several nieces and nephews in the Davie area.
Her funeral service will be held Saturday, March 7 at 3 p.m. in the chapel of Graham Funeral Home. Minister Joseph Gary will officiate and burial will follow in Shiloh Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends 30 minutes before the service.

Laulie Campbell Morgan
Laulie Campbell Morgan, 84, of US 64 East, Mocksville, died on Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2009 at Autumn Care of Mocksville.
Born in Greenville County, S.C., on Jan. 27, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Toy Noah and Blanche Plumley Campbell. She was the owner of the Morgan Hosiery Mill in High Point and was a member of North Main Baptist Church in High Point. She also attended Cornatzer Baptist Church.
Her husband of 43 years, Harrison Benjamin Morgan, Jr., preceded her in death in 1990. She was also preceded in death by a son, William Morgan, and 2 sisters, Minnie Miller and Lucille Overcash.
Survivors: 2 sons, Harrison Ben (Mary) Morgan III, and Robert Morgan, all of Mocksville; 4 brothers, T. N. Campbell of Jefferson, LaRue Campbell of Manitowoc, Wisc., Kenneth Campbell of Newton, and Quentin Campbell of Lexington; a sister, Bobbie Setzer of Conover; a brother-in-law, Marvin Miller of Catawba, 6 grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren.
The service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Morgan was held on Friday, Feb. 27 at 2 p.m. in the Davie Funeral Service Chapel with Pastor Jeff Beverly officiating. Burial was in Rose Cemetery. The family received friends on Thursday, Feb. 26 at Davie Funeral Service.

Mildred Flint Blackwell
Mildred Rebecca Flint “Midge” Blackwell, 81, died Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2009 at Rowan Regional Medical Center, Salisbury.
She was the daughter of the late Lindsey and Zelma Flint. Mrs. Blackwell was educated in the public schools of Davie County. She retired from Laguna Sportswear and was a member of the Hurley School Road Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses in Salisbury.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Louis Blackwell Sr.; a son, John Lindsey Blackwell Jr.; and sister, Willie Mae Smoot.
Survivors: sons, Jerry O. Blackwell (Dixie) and Joseph Blackwell, both of Salisbury; daughter Brenda G. Blackwell-Pearman, Salisbury; siblings, Addie F. Bell (Elvie), Lula Geneva Foote (Cariel), Zelda Naylor (Donald) and Betty Frost; 8 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Her funeral service was held on Saturday, Feb. 28 at 2:30 p.m. in the chapel of Graham Funeral Home. Brother Sam Lowry officiated and burial followed in Memorial Park in Salisbury. The family received friends 30 minutes before the service.

Troy Vestal Danner
Mr. Troy Vestal Danner, 93, of Yadkinville Road, Mocksville, died Wednesday, Feb. 25, 2009, at SunBridge Care & Rehabilitation of Asheboro.
Mr. Danner was born April 17, 1915, in Iredell County to the late Jonah D. and Meadie Ferrell Hunter Danner. He was retired from the Davie County School bus garage and was a member of North Main Street Church of Christ.
He was also preceded in death by his wife of 73 years, Wilma Mae Anderson Danner on Dec. 23, 2008, and by 3 sisters, Maggie Hudson, Louise Gentry and Ruth Sherrill.
Survivors: a son, Don (LouAnn) Danner of Asheboro; 3 grandchildren, Amy Danner of Staley, Kim O’Neal of Raleigh and Troy (Deanna) Danner of Asheboro; 3 great-grandchildren, Katie Sapic, Brooke Keegan and Natalie Danner.
A graveside service was conducted at noon Saturday, Feb. 28, at Jericho Church of Christ in Mocksville with Claude Pharr officiating. The family received friends at Eaton Funeral Home one hour before the graveside service.

John Edward Foster
John Edward “Cricket” Foster, 62, of Macon, Ga., died Thursday, Feb. 26, 2009 after an extended illness.
Services were held at 1 p.m. Monday, March 2 in the chapel at the Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Milledgeville. Pastor Brad Marchman officiated.
Born in Salisbury to the late John Henry and Mary Ella Snyder Foster, Mr. Foster was a retired Air Force TSGT, served in Vietnam and was awarded the Purple Heart. He was a member of Lawrence Drive Baptist Church and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Survivors: his wife of 42 years, Betty Foster of Macon; their sons, John Daniel (Vicki) Foster of Baker, Fla., and Kyle E. (Kimberli) Foster of Fayetteville; 5 grandchildren; 2 step-grandchildren; sisters, Nancy Sheek of Lexington and Brenda Jessup of Walkertown.

Peggy Stroud Koontz
Mrs. Peggy Ann Stroud Koontz, 71, of Lakeview Drive, Mocksville, died Thursday, Feb. 26, 2009, at her home.
She was born Feb. 23, 1938, in Iredell County, to the late James Ray and Cora Marlow Stroud. Mrs. Koontz was a member of First United Methodist Church in Mocksville. She will be remembered with her acts of kindness in sending cards to all who were in special circumstances in their lives.
Survivors: her husband, John Marshall Koontz of the home; a daughter, Melanie Caroline Koontz of Huntsville, Ala.; 2 brothers, James Kenneth Stroud of Mocksville and J.R. Stroud Jr. of Statesville; and her dog, Precious.

Claude H. Clawson
Mr. Claude H. Clawson, 78, of Columbus, Ohio, died Friday, Feb. 27, 2009 at his home.
He was born Aug. 2, 1930 in Cooleemee to the late Claude and Nettie Hepler Clawson.
He was also preceded in death by a brother, Kenneth Clawson, and sister, Alice Clawson Belton.
Survivors: his wife, Patricia “Pat,” son David, daughters Karen and Theresa, and 5 grandchildren, all of Ohio; brother, Jesse Marshall Clawson of Clemmons; and sister, Nellie Clawson Lagle of Cooleemee.

Arlene Felts Bracken
Arlene Felts Bracken, 68, formerly of East Memorial Highway, Harmony, died on Wednesday, Feb. 25, 2009 at the Howard County General Hospital in Columbia, Md.
Born in Surry County on June 21, 1940, she was the daughter of the late Coy Glenn and Pansy Lewis Felts. She was retired as a CNA at Iredell Memorial Hospital and was a member of Harvester Baptist Church in Ellicott City, Md.
Her husband of 45 years, William Frank Bracken, preceded her in death on July 26, 2006. She was also preceded in death by 3 brothers, Bobby, Charlie and Leo Felts; and 2 sisters, Nadine Freeman and Linda Goforth.
Survivors: 3 daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and Terry Allen of Advance, Linda and Wesley Howard of Mocksville and Frankie Annette and Matthew York of Columbia, Md.; a brother and sister-in-law, Billy and Evonne Felts of Mocksville; and 3 grandchildren, Brittany Howard, Chad Howard and Logan Allen.
The service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Bracken was held Monday, March 2, at 11 a.m. in the Davie Funeral Service Chapel with the Revs. Steve Hedgecock and Jim Gryder officiating. Burial was in Iredell Memorial Gardens in Statesville. The family received friends Sunday, March 1 at Davie Funeral Service.
