Calvin Lewis Steele, 55, of Cherry Hill Road, Mocksville, died on Monday, Aug. 18, 2008, at Brian Center of Salisbury. Born in Iredell County on Feb. 4, 1953, he was the son of the late Pauline Peacock. He was employed by Jack B. Wooten Trucking in Statesville and was of the Baptist faith. Survivors: 2 daughters, Jenny (Jeremy) Roush of Mocksville and Tina (Samuel Edge) Steele of Rockwell; and 5 grandchildren. The service to celebrate the life of Mr. Steele was to be held on Wednesday, Aug. 20, at 7:30 p.m. in the Davie Funeral Service Chapel with the Rev. Chris Williams officiating. Thomas Wayne Lanier Mr. Thomas Wayne Lanier, 65, of Fred Lanier Road, Mocksville, died Saturday, Aug. 16, 2008, at his home. He was born in Davie County on Oct. 5, 1942, to the late Avery P. and Maggie Beck Lanier. He had been a lifelong member of Ijames Crossroads Baptist Church and had 46 years of perfect attendance. He was a community handyman. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Shelby Lapish. Survivors: a brother, Kenneth (Virginia) Lanier of Mocksville; 2 sisters, Mary Prevette and Brenda Chaffin, both of Mocksville; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 19, at Ijames Crossroads Baptist Church, with the Rev. Alex Heffner officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery. Kenneth Leroy Stanley Mr. Kenneth Leroy “Lumberjack” Stanley, 72, of Campbell Road, Mocksville, died Saturday, Aug. 16, 2008, at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born in Davie County on Jan. 16, 1936 to the late Era Belle Stanley and was adopted by the late Ken and Vera Stanley. Mr. Stanley was a retired truck driver. He was also preceded in death by a half sister, Sylvia Driver. Survivors: his wife, Dianne Dorion Stanley of the home; 3 sons, Terry (Mary) Stanley, Greg (Shelia) Stanley and Randy (Jenny) Stanley, all of Mocksville; 4 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Ora Lee Jordan of Yadkinville; and 2 half sisters, Phyllis McClamrock and Linda (Grady) Trivette, all of Mocksville. Teresa Justice Teresa Justice, 49, of Angell Road, Mocksville, died on Thursday, Aug. 14, 2008 at Forsyth Medical Center. Born in Pike County, Ky. on Oct. 30, 1958, she was the daughter of the late Brady and Vada Ramey Webb. She was a certified nursing assistant and a Christian. Survivors: a son, Matthew Justice of Mocksville; a daughter, Holly Deskins and fiance Randall Smith (who was like a son); 4 brothers, Clifford Webb of Mocksville, Roger Hunt, Johnny Hunt and Cletus Webb, all of Pikeville, Ky.; and a sister, Jeannette Hunt of Pikeville. Mrs. Justice was also preceded in death a brother, Donnie Webb. The service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Justice was to be held in Kentucky. Louie Smiley Frost Louie Smiley Frost, 78, of Mocksville, died Sunday, Aug. 17, 2008 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem. He was born Nov. 11, 1929, to the late Brady Frost and Edna Frost Morrison. He attended school in Iredell County. He was employed by Drexel-Heritage Furniture, and later retired from Lexington Furniture. He was preceded in death by his wife, Emma Lee Johnson Frost; 2 brothers, Whitfield Frost and John A. Alexander. Survivors: a son, Lester (Katie) Arnold; a granddaughter; a brother, Sloney Bobby Frost; 2 sisters, Nancy (Frank) Peebles and Vivian Vivaleen Bryant, all of Mocksville; many more relatives and friends. His funeral service was to be held on Wednesday, Aug. 20 at 7:30 p.m. in the chapel of Graham Funeral Home. The Rev. Dr. Karen Miller officiated and Apostle Taylor provided the eulogy. The family was to receive friends 30 minutes prior to the service. Faye Davis Bodford Mrs. Faye Davis Bodford, 79, of Clemmons, died Tuesday, Aug. 12, 2008 at Oaks at Forsyth. She was born on Aug. 9, 1929 to the late Walter Clarence and Hattie Jackson Davis. Mrs. Bodford was a member of Bethesda Moravian Church. She retired from AT&T after 32 years. Michael Sidney Morris Michael Sidney “Mike” Morris, 64, of Mocksville died Saturday, Aug. 16, 2008 at Forsyth Medical Center, Winston-Salem. Born April 10, 1944 in Salisbury he was the son of the late Roy Sidney and Frances Lucille McCormack Morris. He was educated in the Salisbury schools and earned his associate degree in military science from Central Carolina Community College. A veteran of the US Army during the Vietnam War, he received the Vietnam Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal and Vietnam Campaign Medal. He served in the Army National Guard. Mr. Morris was a self employed computer programmer and was employed with the NC Employment Security Commission, Mocksville. He was a life member of VFW Post 3006, Harold B. Jarrett American Legion Post 342, the 40 & 8 Club, the Certified Data Processors Association, and was of the Lutheran faith. Survivors: his wife, Janice Glover Morris and a son, Matthew Sidney Morris of the home; and a brother, F. Wayne Morris and wife Judy of Wilmington. A memorial service was to be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 21 at Summersett Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Granville Robinson officiating. Burial was to follow at the US National Cemetery with Military Graveside Rites conducted by the Rowan County Military Honor Guard. Kip Schroder Kip Schroder of Asheboro died Aug. 14, 2008 at Wesley Long Hospital in Greensboro. He was born in Sao Paulo, Brazil April 4, 1952. He was preceded in death by his mother, Cela Callahan, father, Leroy Charles Schroder and brother, Pat Schroder. Survivors: his wife of 20 years, Cindy (Glasscock) Schroder, formerly of Mocksville; 3 sisters: Lelia Fortuna and husband Nick of New Castle, Pa., Linda Wilson and husband Steve of Houston, Texas and Laura Taylor and husband Mike of Bradenton, Fla.; and sister-in-law, Delaine Mehder and husband Steve of Greensboro. Mr. Schroder was a Junior Olympic swimmer as a young man. He graduated from DuBois (Pa.) High School, in 1970 where he excelled in track, golf, basketball, and football. During his senior year he was the District Nine Track and Field champion in the 220-yard dash and the high jump. He was a member of DuBois‚ victorious 880-yard relay team. He played varsity football at Lehigh University graduating in 1974 with a degree in accounting. He loved sports and excelled at many. He retired as controller from Goodyear Asheboro in 2004 after a 30-year career. He was a former member of Asheboro Rotary Club and served on the YMCA Board of Trustees. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Asheboro. He loved golf, loved to dance, and loved people. Funeral services were held Sunday, Aug. 17 at 2 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church, Asheboro with the Revs. Michael Holder, Susan Mitchell, and Howard Allred officiating. The family received friends on Saturday, Aug. 16 from at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro. Fredrick Eugene Smith Mr. Fredrick Eugene “Snuffy” Smith, 76, of New Hampshire Court, Mocksville, died Friday, Aug. l5, 2008 at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston Salem after a short illness. He was born May l4, l932, in Davie County to the late Lonnie Harold and Mary Elizabeth Nail Smith. Mr. Smith had been a sales representative with Mutual Of Omaha Insurance Co. and later a salesman with Reavis Ford. He was retired from Mocksville Builders Supply. Mr. Smith was a Charter member of the Mocksville DAV, Chapter 75 and held many positions with them. He was a volunteer with the VA Medical Center in Salisbury. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. Mr. Smith enjoyed traveling and camping, especially to Florida and Alaska, in addition to golfing and playing gin rummy with his buddies. He was a long-time member of the Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church. He was also preceded in death by a half sister; and a half brother. Survivors: his wife of 57 years, DeWilla Dull Smith of the home; a daughter, Teresa (Danny) Correll of Mocksville; a son, Russell Smith of Mocksville; 5 grandchildren; a great-grandson; 3 brothers, Lonnie (Bettye) Smith Jr. of Jacksonville, Texas, W.L. (Remy) Smith of San Antonio, Texas, and R.B. (Virginia) Smith of Conyers, Ga.; a half brother; a half sister; and several nieces and nephews. Beulah Anders Hartledge Mrs. Beulah Anders Hartlage, 88, formerly of Wandering Lane, Mocksville, died Saturday, Aug. l6, 2008, at the Westchester Manor in High Point. Mrs. Hartlage was born in McDowell County, W.Va., March l, 1920, to the late Walter Glin and Naomi Belcher Anders and was retired form AT&T with after 34 years. She was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America and a long-time member of the Eastern Star. She was a long-time member of the Mocksville First United Methodist Church. She was also preceded in death by her first husband, William Bill Williams; her second husband, Marvin Byerly; and her third husband, Albert Hartlage. Survivors: a stepdaughter, Rita Henderson of Washington, D.C.; a stepson, Larry Dexter Byerly of Greensboro; a sister, Pearline Jordan of Mocksville; a brother, Walter Anders of Princeton, W.Va.; a sister-in-law, Mary Lois Jones of High Point; a niece; and a nephew. A funeral service was to be conducted at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 20, in Eaton Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Don Routh officiating. Burial was to follow in Rose Cemetery. He was born on Sept. 24, 1934 in North Tonawanda, N.Y., the only child of the late Josephine M. (nee Trimboli) and Antonio Versaci. He was a life-long resident of North Tonawanda, before retiring from the North Tonawanda School System and moving to Mocksville nine years ago. He was also preceded in death by a granddaughter, Stephanie Rae Berry. Survivors: his wife, Donna Montana Versaci; stepchildren, Tamara J. Kralick of Florida, and Timothy J. Emma Myers Allen Mrs. Emma Myers Allen, 85, of Advance, died Monday, Aug. 18, 2008 at Forsyth Medical Center. She was born April 10, 1923 in Davie County to Silas and Annie Jarvis Myers. Born in Iredell County on Dec. 23, 1991, she was the daughter of James Robert and Tammy Faye Church Greene. She was a rising junior at Davie High School and was a member of Hardison United Methodist Church. She loved singing and cars and wanted to go to college to become an auto technician. Also surviving: a brother, James Glenn Greene of the home; grandmothers Dianne Green of Mocksville and Helen Hensley of Lexington; 7 aunts; 7 uncles; and 12 cousins. She was preceded in death by grandfathers Bobby Greene and Kelly Church. The service to celebrate Jessica’s life was on Saturday, Aug. 16, at 11 a.m. at Hardison United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dr. Crystal Alexander officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. The family received friends on Friday, Aug. 15 at Davie Funeral Service.
