Mrs. Carolyn Ann York Nail, 65, of Howardtown Road, Mocksville, died Sunday, Aug. 10, 2008, at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem. She was born Oct. 21, 1942, in Davie County to Travis York and the late Stella Potts York. Mrs. Nail was a dedicated member of Fellowship Baptist Church in Advance. Throughout the years she had served the Lord as a Sunday school teacher and was devoted to the shut-ins and senior citizens of the church. She was also preceded in death by a grandson, Jonathon Travis; and a sister, Frances Walker. Survivors: her husband, James Woodrow Nail of the home; her father of Mocksville; 2 daughters, Cindy (Robert) Hottel and Sharon (David) Carter, all of Advance; a sister, Doris Anderson of Mt. Gilead; a brother, Harold York of Advance; and 3 grandchildren. A funeral service was conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 13, at Fellowship Baptist Church, with Pastors Wayne Swisher and Leon Wood officiating. Helen Sparks Yokley Helen Sparks Yokley, 85, of Deck Circle, Mocksville, died on Thursday, Aug. 7, 2008, at Davis Regional Medical Center in Statesville. Born in Davie County on May 8, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Henry Martin and Maggie Lee Hellard Sparks. She was a homemaker and a member of Bethel United Methodist Church. Her husband, Robert Yokley, preceded her in death in 1968. Survivors: 2 sons, Dale (Lynn) Yokley of Mocksville and Dennis (Debbie) Yokley of Cleveland; 2 daughters, Pam Carter and Connie Yokley, both of Mocksville; a brother, Bobby (Peggy) Sparks of Mocksville; 2 sisters, Doris McDaniel and Betty Jo Bowens, both of Mocksville; and 4 grandchildren. Mrs. Yokley was also preceded in death by a son, Earl Yokley, a sister, Emily Stimpson and 4 brothers, Gilbert, Bill, T.J. and Donald Sparks . The service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Yokley was held on Saturday, Aug. 9, at 3 p.m. in the Davie Funeral Service Chapel with the Rev. Tony Owens and Pastor Benny Hillard officiating. Burial followed in the Bethel United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family received friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 1 until the funeral. Memorials: Group Home, 785 Sanford Ave., Mocksville. Patricia Mull Gregory Patricia Mull Gregory, 71, of Henderson, formerly of Mocksville, died on Sunday, Aug. 10, 2008, at Duke University Hospital. Born in Burke County on June 23, 1937, she was the daughter of the late George A. and Louise Barrier Mull. She was a homemaker and a former member of Jerusalem Baptist Church. Her husband, Tech Sgt. Donald Edward Gregory Sr., preceded her in death. Survivors: a son, William Eugene (Teresa) Ray II of Winston-Salem; 2 stepsons, Donald E. Gregory Jr. and Dale Eric Gregory of Austin, Texas; a stepdaughter, Stephanie Howell of Austin; a brother, William Bill Mull of Morganton; a grandson; 6 step-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Gregory was also preceded in death by 2 sisters, Clarissa Neal and Mary Swink. The service to celebrate Mrs. Gregory’s life was held Tuesday, Aug. 12, at 8 p.m. in the Davie Funeral Service Chapel with the Rev. Jimmy Lancaster officiating. The family received friends on Tuesday from 7 until the funeral hour at the funeral home. Robert Lee Tallent Robert Lee “R.L.” Tallent, 66, of Lexington, died Wednesday morning, Aug. 6, 2008, at his home. The funeral was at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 9, at Davidson Funeral Home by Bishop Ronnie Shaw and the Rev. Pat Eller. Burial followed in Lexington City Cemetery. Mr. Tallent was born April 7, 1942, in Rutherford County to Marvin Tallent and Lillie Calloway Tallent. He was employed with Billings Trucking Co. with 29 years of service. Mr. Tallent was a charter member of Faith Chapel and supported the Rev. Pat Eller at Original Church of God. He and his wife, Ruby Carter Tallent would have celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary this October. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Betty Foster and Marie Mullis. In addition to his wife of the home he is survived by: 2 daughters, Penny Smoot and husband Mike of Thomasville and Candy Smith of Lexington; 4 grandchildren; brothers, Russell Tallent and wife Lillian of Advance, and the Rev. James Lee Hyatt Jr. James Lee “Jay Bird” Hyatt Jr., 25, of Hill Crest Drive, Advance, died on Sunday, Aug. 10, 2008, at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center from injuries received in an automobile accident. Born in Watauga County on Oct. 8, 1982, he was the son of James Lee (Kim) Hyatt Sr. of Boone and Mildred Thompson (Billy) Shinault of Advance. He attended Watauga and Davie high schools. He worked for Tyson Foods and was of the Baptist faith. In addition to his parents, he is survived by: a brother, Justin Hyatt of Fort Jackson, S.C.; a sister, Jennifer (Kevin) Trivette of Boone; grandmothers, Mary Bowen and Corda Hyatt; 4 nephews and cousins, aunts and uncles. He was preceded in death by grandfathers Roy Bowen and George Hyatt. The graveside service to celebrate the life of Mr. Hyatt will be held on Thursday, Aug. 14, at 4 p.m. at Rose Cemetery with the Rev. Jimmy Lancaster officiating. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 1-3 p.m. at Davie Funeral Service. Curtiss Lee Reavis Mr. Curtiss Lee Reavis, 78, died Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2008, at Davie Place Residential Care after a period of declining health. He was born May 26, 1930, in Davie County to the late William Lee and Irma Betts Reavis. Mr. Reavis lived in Davie County his entire life, except for his years in service to his country as a sergeant in the U.S. Army. He was a member of Blaise Baptist Church, the Mocksville Masonic Lodge and had served as an auxiliary law enforcement officer in Davie County. He could fix almost anything. For many years he had been the service manager at Reavis Ford in Mocksville. He retired from Ingersoll-Rand, where he was the supervisor of facilities maintenance. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Jamie Jones Reavis. Survivors: 3 daughters, Celinda (Michael) Howell of Raleigh, Nora Reavis (Linda Breen) of Charlotte and Tara (Henry) Jacumin of Valdese; a son-in-law, Dodd Haynes of Charlotte; 2 grandchildren; an extended family; and a special friend, Cathy Newsome. A funeral service was conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 8, at Blaise Baptist Church, with the Revs. Glenn Sellers and Archie Jones Sr. officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery. Stella Maultsby Fisher Stella Maultsby Fisher died Friday afternoon, Aug. 1, 2008 at the home of her daughter in Winston-Salem. She was born on Nov. 22, 1927 in Huntington W.Va. She was 80 years 8 months and 10 days old. She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas Henry and Mary Iva Watts Maultsby, a brother Thomas Henry Maultsby Jr. and her husband of 53 years, Carl Chester Fisher. Surviving: daughters Patricia Ann and husband Calvin Vestal and Carol Victoria and husband Joseph Reed Wilson; 2 grandsons; and a great-grandson Zackary Vestal. Shortly after birth her parents moved to Fayetteville, her father's home. She attended Fayetteville Senior High School and Worth Business School. She was a bookkeeper for many of the retail clothing stores in the downtown area. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Mocksville, and a member of the Women of the Church where she served as the Circle Chair. She was an elder at Big Rockfish Presbyterian Church in Hope Mills. In 1992 she joined the Mocksville Women's Club and participated in many of the club's activities and services. She was president of the club from 1996-1998. She won first place in the NCFWA Arts festival for one of her handmade quilts. Quilting was her favorite way of expressing her artistic abilities. She could be found at least one day a week at the Davie County Public Library where she volunteered in the History Room. She will be remembered for a dry wit, a quick mind and a constant source of conversation on any subject. A memorial service to celebrate her life was held on Aug. 11 at 11 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Mocksville with Paul Seelman officiating. Dorothy Delores Reavis Dorothy “Dot” Delores Reavis, 70, of Newport News, Va., died, Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2008. She was born Nov. 22, 1937 to Dora “Dolly” and Woodrow Correll in Salisbury. She was a step-daughter to the late Sinclair Alexander. Mrs. Reavis grew up in Cooleemee, and attended Davie County Schools. She later traveled and lived around the world with her husband Billy during his career in the U.S. Navy. After retiring and living a number of years in Columbia, S.C., she moved to Newport News. She was an employee at Kmart in Columbia, S.C. for many years. When she retired and moved to Newport News she was employed at Food Lion. Survivors: her mother, Dora “Dolly” Alexander; 2 sisters, Betty Ewart and Jean Cumbie, all of Newport News; 3 children, Rebecca Dale Gullett (W.O. Clarke Jr.) of Waverly, Kenny Reavis and Dawn Reavis of Pelion, S.C.; 8 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; 2 nieces; and many other family and friends. A funeral service was held at 6 p.m., Friday, Aug. 8, at W.J. Smith & Son Funeral Home with the Rev. Frank Earwood of Faith Baptist Church and the Rev. Rusty Beck of Parkview Baptist Church officiating. The family received friends following the service. Perrie Easton Kelley Perrie Easton Kelley, 73, of Milling Road, Mocksville, died on Sunday, Aug. 10, 2008, at his home. Born in Cuyahoga, Ohio, on Sept. 7, 1934, he was the son of the late Larry and Pauline Barton Kelley. He was retired as a surveyor for the City of San Diego and was of the Christian faith. Survivors: his wife, Barbara Ann Banas Kelley, a son, Chris Kelley of Swansboro; 2 daughters, Dawn Bostian (fiance Walter Dollar) of Mocksville and Sherrie Calamia of San Diego, Calif.; 7 grandchildren; and a cousin. The service to celebrate the life of Mr. Kelley was to be held on Wednesday, Aug. 13, at 3 p.m. in the Davie Funeral Service Chapel with Pastor J. B. Whitfield officiating. The family was to receive friends at the funeral home from 1 until the service hour on Wednesday. William Larry Shinault William Larry Shinault, 56, of Deer Run Drive, Mocksville, died on Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2008, at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. Born in Forsyth County on July 11, 1952, he was the son of Jean Hutchins Bell of Florence, S.C. and the late Esker Shinault. He was a self-employed carpenter, attended Freedom Baptist Church and had served in the U.S. Army. Survivors, in addition to his mother: a son, Timothy Shinault of Mocksville; 2 daughters, Tracie Shinault (Eddie Joe) Robinson of Baltimore, Md. and Elaine (Michael) Miller of Advance; 4 brothers, Billy (Millie) Shinault of Mocksville, Pete Bell of Virginia, Bobby Bell Jr. of Yadkinville and Joe Bell of Virginia; a sister, Debbie Bell of Oklahoma; and 4 grandchildren. The service to celebrate the life of Mr. Shinault was held Friday, Aug. 8, at 8 p.m. in the Davie Funeral Service Chapel with the Rev. Scott Jackson officiating.
