Obits: Week of Dec. 21, 2006

- Mary Huneycyutt Hepler
Mrs. Mary Evelyn Huneycutt Hepler, 72, of Freestone Lane, Mocksville, died Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2006, at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem.
Mrs. Hepler was born July 21, 1934, in Stanley County, to Myrtle Virginia Smith Huneycutt and the late Fred A. Huneycutt. She had worked for Moxville Manufacturing. Mrs. Hepler was member of Lakeview Baptist Church in Albemarle, but attended Trinity Baptist Church. She enjoyed gardening, working with flowers, cooking and canning.
In addition to her mother of Oakboro, she is survived by: her husband of 25 years, Bobby Lee Hepler of the home; a daughter, Renee Ridenhour of Mocksville; a son, Toby (Kathy) Ridenhour of Troy, S.C.; a stepdaughter, Donna (Ricky) Boger of Mocksville; a stepson, Steve (Patty) Hepler of Salisbury; a sister, Brenda (Butch) Pressler of Oakboro; 5 grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and a niece.
A funeral service was conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 16, at Trinity Baptist Church, with Dr. Darrell Cox officiating. Burial was in Rowan Memorial Park, Salisbury.
Memorials: Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, 27103.

Robert Lee Willis
Mr. Robert Lee “Bob” Willis, 77, of Bermuda Run, died Sunday, Dec. 17, 2006 at Forsyth Medical Center.
He was born and raised in Peoria, Ill. He spent six and a half years in the 82nd Airborne at Fort Bragg in Fayetteville, and Fort Benning in Columbus, Ga. He initially lived in Dunn and moved to Springfield, Mo. He graduated from CBI in Springfield with a four-year degree in religious education. He moved to Greensboro and attended Guilford College, where he graduated with a degree in psychology. He earned a master’s degree in administration of adult education at N.C. A&T State University. He served with the Guilford County School System, Guilford College, McDowell Technology and Piedmont Office Suppliers. Willis was instrumental in developing the Administration of Justice program at Guilford College. After recently retiring, he spent many hours at Hickory Hill and other golf courses enjoying his favorite pasttime. He was an active member of Clemmons United Methodist Church and was known for his compassion and caring for others. He helped many students achieve their educational and emotional goals during his career in the education system.
Survivors: a daughter, Sherry Willis Tayara and husband Adnan; a son, Robert Lynn (Rob) Willis and wife Sue; 4 grandchildren; a brother, Harold Leroy Willis and wife Mary Ann; and a nephew.
A memorial service was to be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 20 at Clemmons United Methodist Church with the Revs. Phillip Cole and Marcus Portis officiating. The familly was to receive friends following the service.

Mannie Harris Shoffner
Mrs. Mannie Harris Shoffner, 82, of Mocksville, died Saturday, Dec. 16, 2006 at her home.
She was born Dec. 25, 1923 in Yadkin County to the late Ernie and Nina Welborn Harris. Mrs. Shoffner was a member of Yadkinville Church of God.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Hubert Martin Shoffner; a son, Commie Lee Shoffner; 3 sisters and 4 brothers.
Surviving: her children, Jeanette (Wayne) Greene, Larry (Betty) Shoffner, Roger (Cathie) Shoffner; a sister, Olis Lancaster; a brother, E.M. Harris; 9 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Her funeral service was held on Tuesday, Dec. 19 at 2 p.m. at Yadkinville Church of God by the Rev. Timothy Jones. Burial followed in Shoffner Family Cemetery in Mocksville.

Ernestine C. Beck
Ernestine C. Beck, 58, of Guernsey Lane, Mocksville, died on Monday, Dec. 18, 2006, at her home.
Born in Forsyth County on May 3, 1948, she was the daughter of Ernest H. and Mary Elizabeth Horton Clontz, who survive. She was employed as a clerk in retail sales and was a member of Chestnut Grove United Methodist Church.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Beck is survived by: her husband of 38 years, Mickey W. Beck; a daughter, Angella Lee Beck of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla; 2 stepsons, Mickey W. Beck Jr. of Kernersville and Christopher Ray (Kim) Beck of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; a brother, Steve (Vickie) Clontz of Salisbury; 2 sisters, Kay (Wesley) Stewart of High Point and Annette Steelman of Courtney; 2 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.
The funeral service for Mrs. Beck was to be Thursday, Dec. 20, at 2 p.m. at the Chestnut Grove United Methodist Church with the Rev. George Burton officiating. Burial was to follow in the church cemetery. The family was to receive friends on Wednesday, Dec. 20, from 7-9 p.m. at Davie Funeral Service.
