Frances W. Robertson
Mrs. Frances Williams Robertson, 84, of Advance died Monday, Nov. 10, 2008 after a long illness.
She was a member of Advance United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Johnnie H. Robertson, and 2 brothers, Dexter Williams Jr. and Robert Williams.
Survivors: her daughter, Martha Harris and husband George; a sister, Jessie Barney and husband Bob, all of Advance; and a sister-in-law, Nancy Priddy and husband Zane of Mocksville.
A funeral service was to be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 13 at Advance United Methodist Church with the Rev. Cheryl Skinner officiating. Burial was to follow in the church cemetery. The family was to receive friends 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Hayworth-Miller Kinderton Chapel.

Steven D. Stevenson
Mr. Steven Douglas Stevenson, 59, of Statesville, died unexpectedly Saturday, Nov. 8, 2008 at Davis Regional Medical Center.
Born in Iredell County on Feb. 5, 1949, he was a son of the late Burl Rufus Stevenson and Jettie Victoria Hedrick Stevenson. He was a heavy equipment operator for G.L. Wilson Building Co. and enjoyed hunting and fishing. On May 9, 1970, he married the former Rita Richardson who survives.
Also surviving: a son, Robert D. Stevenson of Hamptonville; 2 daughters, Sherry Campbell and Victoria S. Lackey and husband Brian, all of Statesville; grandchildren, Brandi, Leah and Harlee Campbell, Cody Hartzell and Austin Grant; sisters, Mildred Daniels and Doris Jackson, both of Statesville; several nieces and nephews; his close friend, Jimi Dugan; and his dog, Frisky.
Services celebrating Mr. Stevenson's life were conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 11 at Pleasant View Baptist Church with the Rev. Jim Bowman officiating.

Cecil Bailey
Cecil Bailey, 74, of Lexington, died Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2008, at Brian Center Nursing Home.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 31 at the Davidson Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Frankie Matthews. Burial followed in Forest Hill Memorial Park.
Mr. Bailey was born in Davie County on June 27, 1934, to Clarence Clark Bailey and Clettie Waller Bailey. He was a painter with David E. Day Painting Contractor in Winston-Salem who retired after many years. He was of the Baptist Faith.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Cecil Don Bailey; 3 brothers and 2 sisters.
Surviving: his wife, Clara Everhart Bailey of the home; 2 daughters, Roxanne Watson and husband Richard of Clemmons and Wanda Grubb and husband, Joey of Lexington; a son, Shane Bailey and wife Lisa of Lexington; 5 grandchildren, Christopher and Bradley Watson, Justin Grubb, Megan and Dillon Bailey; 5 sisters, Lillie Mae Potts of Advance, Judy Sherrill of Mocksville, Sandra Craver of Clemmons, Anita Myers of Dobson and Katherine Burnette of Virginia Beach, Va.; 2 brothers, Harold Bailey of Lexington and Glenn Bailey of Ramseur.
The family received friends Thursday night at Davidson Funeral Home in Lexington.

Mildred Bowles Couch
Mrs. Mildred Allen Bowles Couch, 83, of Feezor Road, Mocksville, died Thursday, Nov. 6, 2008, at her home.
She was born May 31, 1925, in Davie County to the late James Allen and Faitie Seamon Bowles. Mrs. Couch was a member of Jericho Church of Christ and Jericho Hardison Ruritan Club. She enjoyed traveling and bowling.
She was also preceded in death by 4 brothers, James Avery Bowles, Virgil Collins Bowles, Graham Bowles and J.D. Bowles.
Survivors: her husband of 65 years, Walter Franklin Couch of the home; a sister, Ivey Nell (Edwin) Boger of Mocksville; several nieces and nephews; and her caretaker, Lorraine Seamon.
A graveside service was conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 8, at Jericho Church of Christ, with Dr. Tom Torpy officiating.

Alton F. Markland
Mr. Alton Frederick Markland, 50, of Advance died Monday, Nov. 10, 2008 at Forsyth Medical Center.
He was born July 21, 1958 in Davie County to Paul Frederick and Mabel Myers Markland. Mr. Markland was a graduate of Davie High School and University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Surviving: 3 children, Chad William Markland, Brett Frederick Markland and Brooke Ann Markland; his mother, Mabel Watson (Grady); 2 sisters, Pat Cope and Angela Bailey (Larry); 3 nephews, Brian Bailey (Robin) and their children, Ben and Maddie, Kyle Bailey (Angie) and their son Collin and Adam Bailey and several cousins.
A funeral service was to be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 13 at Elbaville United Methodist Church with the Rev. Kirk Tutterow officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery. The family was to receive friends 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Hayworth-Miller Kinderton Chapel.

Walter Manuel Doulin
Walter Manuel “Big Bubba” Doulin, 84, died on Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2008.
Mr. Doulin was born in Mocksville on June 14, 1924, the middle child of Fisher and Alice Doulin. He graduated from Davie County Training School and attended college for a short time before serving in the US Army during World War II. Shortly after his service, he moved to New York City where he met and married Frances Gary on Sept. 1, 1956. Their marriage last almost 47 years until her death on Aug. 13, 2003. He wanted his legacy to be that he was one of the best poker players who ever lived. He enjoyed riding his bike into his 70s.
He was also preceded in death by an older brother, John C. Doulin.
Survivors: his children, Paulette, Gregory, Renee, Ronald and Idell; grandchildren, Gregory Jr., Geoffrey, Guilian, Gina, Tiffany and Sekai; great-grandchildren Lawrence and Gregory; and a younger sister, Mary D. Holman.
His funeral service was held on Monday, Oct. 27 at 4 p.m. at Veteran Administration Hospital in Bronx, N.Y. Burial was in Calverton National Cemetery in Calverton, N.Y. on Tuesday, Oct. 28.
Sandra Sue Martin
Sandra Sue Martin, 48, of NC 901, Harmony, died on Friday, Nov. 7, 2008, at Iredell Memorial Hospital.
Born in Forsyth County on Dec. 18, 1959, she was the daughter of the late Will Roger Martin and Julia Riddle Blackwelder, who survives. She was a textile worker and was a member of Society Baptist Church.
Survivors: a brother, Kenneth Martin of Granite City, Ill.; and a sister, Lori Harrill of Wilmington.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Miranda Kay Martin, and a sister, Wanda Livengood.
Services and burial will be held at a later date.
