Weddings: Week of May 28, 2009

- Markland-Harpe Couple Married

Susan Elizabeth Markland and William Jeffrey “Jeff” Harpe were united in marriage in a small, private ceremony at the Falls Wedding Chapel in Niagara Falls, N.Y. on April 27. The Rev. Ann Quinn officiated.
The bride is the daughter of Douglas and Jean Markland of Advance. Her maternal grandparents are Frances Stewart of Mocksville and the late Nelson “Dink” Stewart. Her paternal grandparents are the late Charles and Ruby Markland. She graduated from
Davie High School and earned a degree as a paralegal from Forsyth Technical Community College. She is employed by
GMAC Insurance in Winston-Salem as a licensed insurance adjuster.
The groom is the son of Brenda Harpe of Mocksville and the late William “Bill” Harpe. His maternal grandparents are the late Burris Day and Nell R. Day. His paternal grandparents are the late Elbert and Hazel Harpe. He is a graduate of Davie High School and earned a diploma in criminal justice from Davidson County Community College. He is employed by the Davie County Sheriff’s Office as the administrative services lieutenant.
Following a honeymoon to Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada, the couple made their home in Mocksville.




Weddings: Week of May 24, 2009

- Gambino-Trexler Couple Married

Phyllis Beeson Gambino of Kernersville and Jack William Trexler of Clemmons were married at 3 p.m. on May 17 at First Christian Church of Clemmons.
The bride recently retired from Salem Chest Specialist of Winston-Salem. The groom is employed by Parks & Son of Advance.
The bride was escorted by her son, Jonathan Edwards of Castleberry, Fla. The bride wore here daughter Gina Pope’s wedding gown from 11 years ago. The flowers were arranged by her daughter, who also served as the matron of honor.
Anna Walton of Belews Creek, the bride’s step-daughter, served as bridesmaid. Honorary bridesmaids were the 27 fellow employees from Salem Chest Specialist. The bride retired two weeks ago and was treated to a party at Bermuda Run Country Club by the firm.
The best man was Joe Gardner of Winston-Salem, co-worker and best friend of the groom. Ushers were Scott Pope of Kernersville, son-in-law of the bride, and Freddie Willard of Clemmons.
The flower girl was Callie Trexler of Gold Hill, cousin of the groom. The ring bearer was Christopher Pope, 6, grandson of the bride.
Sharon Hylton of Kernersville directed the wedding, and Eric Hylton was the photographer. Soloists were Cathy and Steve Phelps and Christy Trexler. Rebecca Yarbrough performed on violin. Beth Kelly served as pianist. Brenda Willard kept the guest register.
After a honeymoon trip to Florida, the couple will make their home in Clemmons.


Weddings: Week of May 14, 2009

- Shamel-Blackwelder Couple Married

Deanna Elaine Shamel and Bradley Davis Blackwelder were united in marriage on Saturday, March 14 at 4 p.m. at Omwake-Dearborn Chapel on the campus of Catawba College in Salisbury.
The Rev. Joe Woodward officiated the ceremony, which was followed by a reception hosted by the bride’s parents at the F&M Trolley Barn. The bridal party was transported to the reception in one of the antique F&M trolleys.
The bride was escorted by her father, Joe Shamel. Serving as maids of honor were her sisters, April Shamel of Swannanoa and Carrie Shamel of Clemmons. Bridesmaids were Carly Balsley of Mocksville and Kimberly Styers of Hamptonville. Junior bridesmaid was McKenzie Blackwelder, niece of the groom.
Lloyd Blackwelder served as his son’s best man. Groomsmen included Chad Blackwelder, brother of the groom and Brandon Shore, both of Mocksville and McKenzie Willoughby of Lexington, Ky.
Mr. and Mrs. T.C. Owen served as registrar and program attendants. Wedding director was Sheila Tutterow. Music was provided by “Sine Nomine” string quartet with vocal music performed by the Toccatatones of High Point University.
The bride is the daughter of Joe and Marlene Shamel. Her maternal grandparents are Belle D. Boger of Mocksville and the late James D. Boger. Her paternal grandparents are the late Mr. and Mrs. George E. Shamel. She graduated form Davie High School and earned a bachelor’s degree in business management from UNC-Asheville. She is employed by the Davie County School System.
The groom is the son of Lloyd and Cathy Blackwelder. His maternal grandparents are Lonnie and Betty Brown of Mooresville. His paternal grandparents are the late Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Blackwelder. He graduated from Davie High School and earned a bachelor’s degree in business management from UNC-Asheville. He is employed by Anderson Land and Timber.
Following a honeymoon in St. Lucia, the couple resides in Mocksville.
Social Events
• The bride was honored at a bridal shower on Dec. 14 at the home of Cathy Blackwelder, also hosted by Darnell Beam, Kerry Blackwelder, Nicole Farnsworth, Pattie and Katlyn Lawing, Rhonda Meadows, April Owen and Lonnie Smith.
• Molly Connell and Pam Speer hosted and around the clock shower on Jan. 10 at the Speer residence.
• A recipe shower hosted by Carly and Vickie Balsley and Donna and Sarah Williams was held Feb. 7 at the Williams home.
• Elette Owen, Christy Schafer and Vickie Smitherman hosted a couples only shower at the Owen residence on Feb. 21.
• A bridal shower on Feb. 22 was hosted by Sarah Buchanan, Sue and Mindy Seamon and Stacy Taylor at the Seamon home.
• A bridesmaid luncheon was held at Carolina Lily at the Farm in Salisbury. Hostesses were Dawn, Pat, Peggy and Sheila Tutterow.
• The rehearsal dinner was hosted by the groom’s parents at the Family Life Center of the First United Methodist Church in Mocksville on March 13.

Hendricks-Klingel Couple Married At Asheville Church

Holly Ann Hendricks and William Patrick Klingel, both of Asheville, were married April 11 in a small, private outdoor ceremony at Antioch Christian Church in Asheville. The Rev. Mike Petty officiated.
The bride is the daughter of Jerry and Vicki Hendricks of Mocksville. Her grandparents are Robert L. and Helen Hendricks of Mocksville and the late Jack R. and Ann Jackson of Canton. The bride is a graduate of North Carolina State University and of Western Carolina University. She is a fifth grade teacher at Glen Arden Elementary School in Buncombe County.
The groom is the son of Dave and Deanna Klingel of Sapphire. His grandparents are Willard and Arlene Kipker and the late Harry and Laura Klingel, all of Three Rivers, Mich. The groom attended The University of Georgia and is a graduate of Western Carolina University. He is manager and brewmaster at the Lobster Trap in downtown Asheville.

- Berrier-Crutchfield Couple Married

Jamie Dawn Berrier of Lexington and Erik Matthew Crutchfield of Winston-Salem were married at 3 p.m. March 6 in an outdoor ceremony in the Riviera Maya, Mexico.
The bride is the daughter of Kent and Dawn Berrier of Lexington. Her maternal grandparents are C.P. and Betty Owens of Winston-Salem, formerly of North Wilkesboro, and Kenneth and Peggy Berrier of Winston-Salem. She is a hair designer at Ego Hour Hair Designers.
The groom is the son of Perry and Debbie Crutchfield of Advance. His maternal grandparents are the late Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Foote and his paternal grandparents are the late Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Crutchfield. He is a service manager for Triad Roofing Company.
The bride was escorted by her father.
The maid of honor was Katie Berrier, the bride’s sister. The groom’s father was the best man.
Following their honeymoon in the Riviera Maya, a reception was held March 28 at the Hawthorne Inn. The couple live in Winston-Salem.
