Weddings: Week of Aug. 30, 2007

- Robertson-Quinlan Couple Married

Corrie Dee Robertson and Paul Joseph Quinlan of Durham were married in an outdoor ceremony at 6:30 p.m. on Aug. 25 at Childress Vineyards. Kim O’Connor officiated.
The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. David Robertson of Mocksville. Her maternal grandparents are Sue Anderson and the late Mr. Jim Anderson. Her paternal grandparents are Ruth Robertson and the late Mr. Glenn Robertson. The bride earned a bachelor’s and a master’s degree from UNC Chapel Hill. She is employed as an English teacher at Green Hope High School in Cary.
The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Quinlan of Doylestown, Pa. His maternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Rudolph Schneider of Hatfield, Pa.. His paternal grandparents are Ronald Quinlan of Hornell, N.Y. and the late Mrs. Carolyn Quinlan. The groom earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Notre Dame and masters’ degrees from Duke University. He is an economics and policy analyst for the N.C. Sustainable Energy Association in Raleigh.
The bride was escorted by her father. She wore a fitted white satin gown by J. Crew Formals. The bride carried a bouquet of white roses accented with blue tweedia.
The matron of honor was her sister, Kelly Wilson of Mocksville. The bridesmaids were Nora Casper of Nashville, Tenn., Becky Schmitz of Durham, Tara Smithson of Mt. Pleasant, and Sarah Quinlan, sister of the groom of Doylestown, Pa.
The best man was Brian Quinlan, brother of the groom of Doylestown, Pa. The groomsmen were Dan Catrambone of Rockville, Md., and Jess Morrison of Park City, Utah.
The flower girl was the niece of the bride, Gracie Ruth Wilson of Mocksville.
Following the ceremony, dinner and dancing were held at the Vineyards’ Main Hall.
Millie Plemmons directed the wedding.
After a honeymoon trip to Estes Park, Colo., the couple will live in Durham.
Social Events
• A girls weekend out and lingerie shower was hosted by Kelly Wilson at Chetola Resort in Blowing Rock on June 15-17.
• A wedding shower was hosted by Karen Quinlan at Sequoia Restaurant in Washington, D.C. on July 14.
• A wedding shower was hosted by Women’s Ministry of Redland Pentecostal Holiness Church with food and desserts by Jeana Garraghty and Norma Jean Dunn on July 21.
• A rehearsal dinner was hosted by Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Quinlan at WS Prime on Aug. 24.
• A bridal brunch, where the bride presented gifts to her bridal party, was hosted by Kelly Wilson at her home on Aug. 25.

Standard-Shermer Couple Married

Jessica Kim Standard and Jason Glenn Shermer, both of Advance, were united in marriage on June 14 at Historic Fort Fisher Beach. The Rev. Don Townsend performed the 7 p.m. ceremony.
The bride is the daughter of Tommy and Sheila Wagner of Germanton and Kim Standard of Winston-Salem. She is the granddaughter of Freddie and Tana Franklin of Lexington and Rosie Standard and the late W.C. Standard of Winston-Salem. She is a graduate of South Stokes High School and is studying business administration at Forsyth Technical Community College.
The groom is the son of Glenn and Kathryn Shermer of Advance, and the grandson of the late Glenn and Polly Shermer of Winston-Salem and the late Sebon and Ella B. Gambill of Traphill. He is a graduate of Davie High School and earned an associate’s degree from Forsyth Technical Community College. He is employed as assistant manager at Pacific Sunwear.
Kacie Wagner, the bride’s sister, served as flower girl, and ring bearers were Mason and Ryley Shermer, the bride and groom’s children.
A reception was held on July 29 at Tanglewood Park.
After a wedding trip to Carolina Beach, the couple made their home on Hilton Road, Advance.

Call-Southard Couple Married In Mocksville

Dana Jeanette Call and Mark Brandon Southard were married on June 2 at First Presbyterian Church in Mocksville. The Rev. Paul Seelman officiated.
The bride is the daughter of Perry and Linda Call of Mocksville. She is the granddaughter of Roland and Doris Caldwell of Lynchburg, Va. and Clarence Call of Mocksville and the late Athalene Call. The bride is an honor graduate of Davie High School and earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration and a master’s of accounting from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She is an internal audit analyst and CPA at Nucor in Charlotte.
The groom is the son of Drs. Bruce and Sherry Southard of Greenville. He is the grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs. Gene Goforth of Decatur, Ill. and Ernestene Southard of Lubbock, Texas and the late O.B. Southard. He is a graduate of J.H. Rose High School, earned bachelor’s degrees with honors in psychology and philosophy from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and master’s of business administration from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. He is the marketing manager at Innova Disc Golf in Rock Hill, S.C.
The bride was escorted by her father. The maid of honor was Becky Call of Memphis, and the matron of honor was Amy Spittle of Concord, both sisters of the bride.
The groom chose his brother, Derek Southard of Greenville, as his best man. Groomsmen were Michael Kuhn of Chapel Hill and Scott Faison of Greenville.
The wedding director was Kelly Alexander. The guest register attendant was Leigh Yates, friend of the bride. Wedding music was provided by Anita Long, organist. The vocalist was Becky Call.
The groom’s family hosted the rehearsal dinner Friday evening in honor of the bride and groom at the residence of Bill and Kathy Junker.
Following the ceremony, a reception was held at the historic Salisbury Station. The couple honeymooned in Italy and lives in Charlotte.

Hudson-Buchanan Couple Speak Vows

Hazel Shanlon Hudson and Ronald Legree Buchanan, both of Winston-Salem, were united in marriage Saturday, June 30 at noon at St. Stephen’s Missionary Baptist Church in Winston-Salem. The Rev. Dr. Fannie Featherstone, the groom’s sister of College Park, Md., performed the double-ring ceremony.
The bride is the daughter of Magalene D. Gaither of Mocksville and Troy B. Hudson of Salem Health Center, Winston-Salem, and the stepdaughter of the late William Eugene Gaither. She is the maternal granddaughter of the late Leroy and Hazel Britton Dulin and the paternal granddaughter of the late Baxter and Susie Campbell Hudson of Mocksville. The bride is a graduate of Davie High School She earned a bachelor’s degree in mathematics and computer science from Winston-Salem State University, an associate degree in Biblical studies from Shaw University, Raleigh, and a master’s degree in technology management from the University of Maryland, College Park, Md. She was presented by the Alpha Alpha Chapter of the Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Debutante Cotillion in Salisbury. She is a system manager at AON Consultants in Winston-Salem.
The bridegroom is the son of Katherine Rushing of Danville, Va. and the late Hayes Buchanan Sr. and the grandson of the late Roxie Cardwell of Danville, Va. The groom is a graduate of George Washington High School in Danville, Va. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Winston-Salem State University in sociology and is pursuing an associate degree in mechanical engineering from Forsyth Technical Institute. He is a Boy Scout Master, a member of Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity, and the Masonic and Shriner Orders. He is employed by RJ Reynolds Industry as a machinist.
The bride was escorted and given in marriage by her brother, Eric (Ricky) Lynn Hudson Sr. of Salisbury. Her gown was designed by Private Label by G. It was made of matte satin. It featured a fitted bodice with a V-neckline. The fingertip chiffon sleeves were embellished with spattered strands of crystal. Dimensional beads, embroidery and Swarovski crystals were imbedded into the bodice and the skirt which fell into a beaded appliqued royal cathedral train. Her head piece was a shoulder-length veil of French tulle on a Swarovski crystal comb.
She carried a cascade of white roses, baby’s breath and stephanotis.
The matron of honor was the bride’s cousin, Rachel Isaac Wade of Winston-Salem. The bridesmaids were the groom’s daughter, Cerina Buchanan of Chapel Hill; the bride’s cousins, Clarice A. Lansey of Baltimore, Md. and Mary Jane Stoner of Salisbury; and the bride’s sister-in-law, Louise Hudson of Salisbury.
The prelude was provided by Fabrice Dharamaj, violinist, and Stephen Gourley, organist, of North Carolina School of the Arts. They played “Air on the G String” by Bach, “Jesus, Joy of Man’s Desiring” by Bach, and “Libestraum” by Lizst. Mocksville Second Presbyterian Church Choir under the direction of Paul Ijames sang “The Gift of Love” by Hal Hobson; “Jesus, You’re the Center of My Joy” by Bill Gaither and “The Lord’s Prayer” by Albert Hay Malotte. Professor d’Walla Simmons Burke, choir director at Winston Salem State University, sang Shubert’s “Ave Maria.”
Hostesses were: Brenda Buchanan, the groom’s sister-in-law of Washington, D.C.; Elizabeth D. Dulin, the bride’s cousin of Mocksville; Ashley Johnson, the bride’s cousin of High Point; and Trudy Smart, the couple’s friend of Winston-Salem.
The best man was Thomas Burt, college roommate of Raleigh. Groomsmen were Hayes Buchanan Sr. of Washington, D.C., the groom’s brother; Gregory Buchanan of Danville, Va, the groom’s cousin; Ronald L. Buchanan Jr., the groom’s son of Greensboro; and Willie Cardwell Jr., the groom’s cousin of Danville, Va. Ushers were: Alfonso McLaughin of Redding, Pa.; Richard Lee of Baltimore, Md.; Charles Young of Charlotte; and Alexander Owens III of Richmond, Va.
A candle was lit in memory of the late grandparents and their late pets, “Bonehead,” “Buddy B. Hudson” and “Virginia.” The wedding was directed by Earle Lyons Smith of Salisbury.
The wedding reception was held at Bermuda Run Country Club in Advance. Henry Johnson was reception DJ. Ralph Dalton of Statesville and Marshall Allan Steele of Mocksville did a parody of “The Glory of Love.
• Rachel Wade and Louise Hudson hosted a bridesmaids luncheon at The Tavern Inn in Winston-Salem.
• The groom and his family hosted a rehearsal luncheon at Graylyn Conference Center, Winston-Salem.
After a 10-day honeymoon cruise of the Hawaiian Islands, they are at home in Clemmons.
