Cope Blazing Hot In Rout Of S. Rowan

By Brian Pitts - There are three good reasons that Tyler King’s hot streak has had a hard time escaping the shadows. King went 2 for 5 with four RBIs in Saturday’s impressive 11-1 home win over South Rowan, giving him a hit in five consecutive games.
King is 8 for 18 during the streak, but he’s not even close to the hottest bat for the Mocksville Legion baseball team, which is a good thing if you’re coach Mike Lovelace.
One who is even hotter is Zack Russell-Myers, who went 2 for 4 with three RBIs and his third home run. He’s 14 for 26 during a six-game hitting streak.
Another player on a sizzling surge is Zeb Cope, who went 3 for 4 with three runs. His seven-game hitting streak has lifted his average to .461.
A third skyrocketing player is Colby Seaford, who went 2 for 2 with two runs and two walks. He’s 5 for 7 over three games. Oh, and Clint Howell doubled to extend his hitting streak to five.
This was a monster win. South came in tied for first in the loss column with Rowan County. Lovelace probably expected Mocksville to give South all it wanted considering it had ... subscribe to the Davie County Enterprise Record, P.O. Box 99, Mocksville, N.C. 27028.

Russell-Myers 5 For 5 In Sunday Blowout

By Brian Pitts - A team that was written off early last week was enjoying a two-game winning streak late in the week. Mocksville’s Legion baseball team put visiting Winston-Salem hopelessly behind in the third inning on Sunday night and coasted to an 18-6 non-league win.
There was no emotional hangover from Saturday’s 2-1 win over first-place Rowan County. Zack Russell-Myers and Co. made sure of that. Mocksville used a different victory formula than the Rowan game. Instead of extraordinary pitching and clutch hitting, Mocksville’s offense started fast and remained relentless until it had 18 runs in the fifth inning.
Russell-Myers did something he’ll remember 30 years from now, going 5 for 5. He raised his average from .322 to .416 as Mocksville squared its overall record at 6-6.
“I thought after a big win last night we might have a letdown,” coach Mike Lovelace said. “But we came out and battled. We went 20 for 36. You can’t do that in slowpitch softball. And we were without two starters (Hernan Bautista and Jess Cartner).”
Talk about a turnaround. Winston trampled Mocksville 25-7 in the first meeting. This time Mocksville overwhelmed Winston, scoring six runs in the first, three in the second, five in the third (for a 14-5 lead) and four in the fifth (for an 18-5 lead).
Carlos Bautista (3 for 5, four RBIs), Nick Burwell (3 for 5, two RBIs), Zeb ... subscribe to the Davie County Enterprise Record, P.O. Box 99, Mocksville, N.C. 27028.
