The Davie Board of Education unanimously approved a budget resolution for next year, just a few hours before the governor signed the state budget. The board must have a resolution in place until the state budget is final, and it is expected members will adopt the final budget at the August or September meeting.
Last week’s vote, with board members Chad Fuller and Carl Lambert absent, included balances in the state public school fund, local current expense fund, federal grants fund, and child nutrition fund. The capital outlay budget, of just over $1.26 million, was adopted at the June meeting.
Finance Officer Deborah Smink gave an overview of how the 09-10 fiscal year began, which included a local unrestricted fund balance of more than $1.55 million. The board was able to operate without the use of those unrestricted funds during the past fiscal year, and the closing balance of just over $1.7 million represents an increase of about $150,000.
