County Commits $1 Million
Allen Mebane Asks For Money To Fund School Technology

When Allen Mebane presented his request to commissioners for help to improve education in Davie County, he made that request very clear.
He asked for $1 million.
He asked to receive $500,000 of that money this month.
And he asked the money be taken from the county budget’s hold harmless fund.
Mebane was at the commissioner’s meeting Monday to present a report on the Mebane Challenge to provide new technology in all Davie schools.
Mebane said that in the last month he and new superintendent Dr. Robert Landry have determined a new reading program was needed in the elementary schools. RAPII would start this September in the fourth and fifth grades. A reading comprehension program will also be started for sixth-eighth grades.
Mebane told commissioners the Mebane Foundation, with unanimous approval of the school board, is ready to sign a four-year contract with Hill Center to provide the services for $500,000.
