Teen’s Smile Could Brighten A Room

Candace Marie Joyal was only 18 when she died in her sleep July 1.
- Robert and Jeannette Joyal only have memories of their daughter, Candace Marie Joyal.
The 18-year-old from Cooleemee died in her sleep at a friend’s house on July 1. Although an autopsy will reveal the cause of her death, it won’t bring back the energetic young woman loved by her family.
Candace loved all types of sports, even if it was just playing catch in the yard. She went on family trips to the YMCA to play basketball and swim.
“At family cookouts, she would get in her joking mood, and would make everyone laugh,” her parents wrote on Monday while remembering their daughter.
Growing up in upstate New York, Candace decided she wanted to work with animals. She was always bringing home stray pets, her parents said. She enjoyed staying with her grandmother, and helping her clean the house and walk her dog.
“I’ll miss her coming with her mother and sister to my work to bring me a pizza,” her father said. “When she had that smile of hers turned on, should could brighten a room.”
Candace loved macaroni and cheese and picking on family and friends. She loved playing with her nieces, and playing football in the yard with her brother.
She confided in her mother, often having long talks about what she wanted to do. She loved her family, especially sitting together watching a movie.
And her family loved her.
“We miss you so much Candace, your aunts, uncles, brother, sisters, nieces and mom and dad, and all whom you touched in friendship,” they wrote.
Davie County Sheriff’s Department Detective Lee Whitesides does not believe any foul play was involved in her death. It could take several weeks before the autopsy report is released ... subscribe to the Davie County Enterprise Record, P.O. Box 99, Mocksville, N.C. 27028.
