Sheriff Shoots Wayward Cow Davie Sheriff Andy Stokes kills the unpredictable cow. - Photo by Robin Snow By Jackie Seabolt - A stand-off between a wayward cow and law enforcement officers lasted more than an hour Sunday before the animal was shot to death. According to Davie Sheriff Andy Stokes, seven cows were being transported to a market in Turnersburg. “Near Farmington Road one of the calves - the one involved in the four mile chase - kicked the trailer.” After the cow escaped, the man called 911 and reported it loose near I-40. Stokes said sheriff’s officers were successful in herding the cow down the interstate from Farmington Road to the US 601 exit. “The deputies involved in herding the animal for four miles did a magnificent job, but the threat of injury was there.” Stokes said that the cow ended up being surrounded by officers and ... subscribe to the Davie County Enterprise Record, P.O.
