COUNTY BUDGET HEARING MONDAY
Tax Rate Would Stay The Same

A public hearing will be held Monday, June 4 for the upcoming fiscal year budget for Davie County.
The hearing will begin at 6 p.m. and will be held in the county administration building's second floor commissioner's room.
The 2007-2008 budget is $78.3 million.
There is no property tax increase and no increase in county fees (water, sewer, building inspection, or permits).
County Manager Terry Bralley said a property revaluation for the county is planned in 2009.
The budget includes support of a statewide school bond and alternative revenue sources for school construction. Bralley says he's still pitching for a half cent sales tax and a land transfer tax.
The state school bond proposal is in the works in Raleigh, and if approved, could be on the ballot in November. It could bring $11 million to Davie County.
County employees would receive a 3 percent or $1,000, whichever is greatest, cost of living pay increase.
The '07-'08 budget calls for restructuring of the sheriff’s department staff. Initially, the sheriff's department asked for an additional $1.2 million over the $2.5 million allocated last year. Instead, they will receive $350,000 for department operations and an additional $350,000 for equipment. This includes six new positions, Bralley said ... subscribe to the Davie County Enterprise Record, P.O. Box 99, Mocksville, N.C. 27028.
