County Manager Beth Dirks has been working long hours in recent weeks.
A public records request from a Mocksville resident has had her finding every email - there are hundreds - from county officials and commissioners to members of the school board and staff, Mebane Charitable Foundation and Davidson County Community College.
Dirks told county commissioners on Monday that the request came in mid-October, and that not all information in every email is allowed to be released according to law. County Attorney Sally Smith will go through the emails, printing the ones that contain privileged information and blacking out those portions. A computer will be set up for the emails to be viewed.
Dirks said the county can’t charge for staff time, but can for costs in printing pages, which she said equals about 9 cents a page. The county will have to pay for the attorney to review the emails.
