Residents Say Cooleemee Can Support Doctor’s Office

By Beth Cassidy - Patients in Cooleemee and surrounding areas who have enjoyed the convenience of having a hometown doctor will soon have to look elsewhere for their medical care.
Novant has announced it will close the office of the only doctor in town, Dr. Joseph Zastrow, Feb. 10.
Zastrow will continue to see patients, but those wanting to remain with him will have to drive to Rowan Medical Clinic in Salisbury.
The statement, issued by Falon Nye, of Rowan Regional Media Relations, said, “Due to the economic downturn, the patient volumes at Cooleemee Family Practice have declined and the overhead costs have become too great to remain open. Patients of Cooleemee Family Practice will be notified directly by mail about options for medical care, including the opportunity to continue as a patient of Dr. Zastrow. Cooleemee Family Practice has enjoyed the relationships they have built with their patients and family members and is confident that all patients will continue to receive quality medical care at a facility close to home.”
