Bermuda Run Eyes Revenue Sources

BERMUDA RUN - The town council is looking for ways to increase revenue, without raising property taxes.
Council members unanimously approved two resolutions to be presented to the General Assembly - one authorizing an occupancy tax, the other to allow fees to be assessed for gate and fence maintenance.
Mayor John Ferguson said that the occupancy tax would apply to the new Hampton Inn being built behind the Lowe’s Foods on NC 801 and any other facility that rents rooms. The tax would not exceed 6% when combined with the county occupancy tax rate of 3%.
The second resolution passed requests legislation authorizing the collection of gate operations and fence maintenance fees with property tax collections. Town Attorney Brian Williams told the board that this was the best way to deal with non-payment. “This is the best way to do this, it will make collection a lot easier and enforecable for the town.”
