Teen Shot In Hunting Accident
By Jackie Seabolt
-
A hunting accident involving a Davie teenager occurred this weekend in the southwest portion of the county.
According to Davie Sheriffs Department Capt. J.D. Hartman, authorities responded to a call on Nov. 24 regarding a 14-year-old boy being shot while hunting.
Hartman said the boy, his uncle, and grandfather had been deer hunting off Jones Road. “He was with his uncle and they became separated. His uncle was shooting at a deer and heard the young man scream,” Hartman said.
The boy was accidentally shot by his uncle in the arm and was airlifted to Baptist Medical Center where he underwent surgery.
The boy’s name is not being released since he is a juvenile. No charges are being filed by the sheriff. “The Wildlife Commission is investigating due to the fact it was a hunting accident,” Hartman said.
NC Wildlife Officer Kenny Osborne, who is investigating the incident, said that he was conducting interviews with several people and would eventually present his findings to the district attorney “to determine where it goes from there.”
“There haven’t been a lot of hunting accidents here. This is the first one I’ve investigated in the last 7 to 8 years,” Osborne said ... subscribe to the Davie County Enterprise Record, P.O. Box 99, Mocksville, N.C. 27028.
