Five employees of Sagebrush in Mocksville were standing outside the business early Sunday morning, talking before heading home after a busy shift at the new restaurant.
They were chatting with a friend, James Michael Jones, who had gone to the restaurant earlier that night.
What happened in the next few minutes changed their lives forever - and ended the life of their friend.
A man appeared from behind the dumpster near the back of the restaurant, off US 601 North at the eastbound entrance ramp onto I-40. The slender black man wearing coveralls and with a ski mask over his face pointed a shotgun at the group.
