Cooleemee Gets New Members On Town Board

- A candidate for the Cooleemee Town Board who promised a new direction for the town won the election Tuesday.
Tommy Daywalt, with 106 votes, will be sworn into office in December, as will second place finisher Freddie Carter with 97 votes. Incumbents Carl Smith and Daphne Beck lost their seats with 91 and 64 votes, respectively.
In Mocksville, incumbent Mayor Dr. Francis Slate was re-elected with 513 votes, with challenger Debra M. Stanley getting 265 votes. Elected to the town board was Lee Rollins with 519 votes and J.C. “Buster” Cleary with 483 votes. M.A. “Tony” Williams received 370 votes.
